Hit E! reality show Total Divas will be begin its third season later this year with veteran Diva Rosa Mendes joining the cast.
An official press release on the company’s site notes that the new season of Total Divas will return in September. (The second season finale of the show is due to air June 1 and will focus on Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella’s wedding.)
WWE also announced that Mendes will be joining the show for season three, giving a brief synopsis about what we can expect from the former Diva Search finalist:
Former model and WWE Diva Rosa Mendes joins the cast for season three. A veteran of the Divas Division since 2006, Rosa has spent the past year with her eyes on the cast of "Total Divas." Now that she’s one of them, there is no telling what may happen next.
On top of all the drama outside of the ring, Rosa and the rest of the Divas compete for a top spot, and the highly coveted Diva’s title, at WrestleMania 30.
Earlier today, Mendes took to her Twitter account to comment on her involvement with the show:
Mendes, 34, is certainly an interesting choice.
Despite being good-looking and having a decent amount of charisma and personality, the star has struggled to establish a solid role for herself in the company during her eight-year stint.
Her run managing tag team partners Epico and Primo is arguably the only time WWE has managed to capitalize on her talents, and even that didn’t last very long. She hasn’t been doing much at all for the past year, to be honest.
It's possible that her struggles as an in-ring performer have hindered her. WWE doesn't just want valets these days; it wants wrestlers too. Rosa is well-suited to the former but not the latter.
Can Total Divas help put her back on the map?
Probably. It’s a very high-profile gig, after all.
I can’t help but wonder, though, if a more relevant performer, such as Paige or Alicia Fox, would have been a better and more suitable choice for the show.
But we’ll have to wait and see how Rosa does come September.
