NBA Withdrawals...Not for the Average Fan

Janet KesslerJun 23, 2009

If you are like me, this is the most dreaded time of the basketball season.

And, if you are like me, your respected team exited the season much too soon.

Yes my friends, you have it too...NBA withdrawals.

We try not to think about it (it's much too painful and embarrassing), but the empty feelings just linger on. We stare endlessly at our TVs and computers, waiting for anything NBA to come on.

We are left with a cold achy empty feeling (oh, where is my hoops?) in our guts. We surf all the known sports sites trying to get a fix with some news about our team.

And in the Mavericks' case, isn't Dirk-opera or Crystal-gate related?

But, sometimes in desperation, even that will do.

We hit up our friends for a fix: "Hey buddy, have you heard anything lately?"

Oh, we amuse ourselves with conversations about hypothetical trades and draft predictions. Sure they pass the time, but it's just not the same.

And, it's only make-believe!

We even try other sports.

Baseball is outdoorsy, and summer is hot. I want to see the players sweat, not be a participant.

Yeah, football is good, in a brutal way, but the scoring is too slow for my forte.

But, take heart my dear friends.

A true fix is coming.

One that will satisfy our hunger for anything NBA. One that will calm our NBA needs.

Thank the Lord, the NBA draft is June 25th.

We will finally learn who our team will select, and all this silly guessing and theorizing will come to an end. We will finally know who the new millionaire rookie on the team is.

Then we can focus the hype on whether or not we think our team made "The Right" choice, and whether or not the new kid will make an impact this season, or is just a future project.

So, I'll see you on the blogs.

So, let the debate begin.

This may just be a short-lived fix though, so beware. Moderation is a key in making it last. This fix has to do us till Sept. 28th, when training camp starts.

Together we can make it through this long summer without basketball.

I know it's hard to live without NBA basketball, but we can do it.
