The English Premier League and English Championship took a break this week for FA Cup action, highlighted by a game-winning goal by Oguchi Onyewu in Sheffield Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Rochdale.

When regular league action does return, Maurice Edu will be with a different club as’s Ives Galarcep reported that a deal with the Philadelphia Union was finalized after weeks of negotiations.

Clint Dempsey was not in the squad for Fulham’s match against Sheffield United.

Jozy Altidore played 90 minutes in Sunderland’s 1-0 win over Kidderminster.

Geoff Cameron started for Stoke City in their match with Chelsea.

Tim Howard got the day off as Everton beat Stevenage 4-0.

Tim Ream went the distance for Bolton as they lost 1-0 to Cardiff City. Stuart Holden is still recovering from his knee injury, but his recovery appears to be going well.

Will Packwood put in a 90-minute effort for Birmingham City in their 2-1 loss to Swansea. Jonathan Spector was not in the squad for Birmingham.

Eric Lichaj went the distance in Nottingham Forest’s 0-0 draw with Preston.

Duane Holmes was on the bench for Huddersfield, and did not play in their 1-0 loss to Charlton.

Barnsley took their weekend off to play a friendly against Irish side Dundalk and Brek Shea scored a goal in the 4-1 win.

Ze Germans

The Bundesliga was back in action this week, with a goal by Timmy Chandler being the big news (video here). Chandler’s goal came in a 4-0 win over Fabian Johnson’s Hoffenheim and Johnson was subbed out of the match with a hand injury.

The other big news for United States men’s national team fans out of Germany this week was that Steve Cherundolo has begun training on his own again due to continued problems with his knee. Struggling with the injury for over a year, Cherundolo’s World Cup hopes are slim.

Reports out of Germany suggest that Jermaine Jones, who declared his interest to leave Schalke earlier this month,  is in danger of not finding a new club before the transfer window closes.

John Anthony Brooks was not in the squad for Hertha Berlin.
