It was another action-packed week for Americans playing abroad, topped by the transfers of Juan Agudelo and Michael Parkhurst.

Julian Green, Aron Johannsson, Terrence Boyd, Jose Torres and Paul Arriola found themselves among the goalscorers this week, and Oguchi Onyewu picked up an assist.

Brad Guzan found himself at the center of an English Premier League controversy, and Clint Dempsey put in a rather awful performance for Fulham.

There is also news about possible moves for Maurice Edu and Villyan Bijev.

Read about all that and much, much more in this week’s Americans Abroad Wrap.

In the English Premier League

Brad Guzan was at the center of controversy this weekend in the English Premier League as Aston Villa took on Liverpool. Guzan came out and slid on a play against Luis Suarez and with no apparent contact, Suarez went to ground. Liverpool was awarded a rather dubious penalty which Steven Gerrard converted. The match finished 2-2.

Maurice Edu looks to finally be set to end his nightmare stint at Stoke City, with reports that a move to Major League Soccer is in the works. Since his move from Glasgow Rangers, Edu has played a grand total of 10 minutes in two seasons with Stoke.

Clint Dempsey and Fulham lost 2-0 to Arsenal. Dempsey started and went the distance, but he was the lowest-rated player for Fulham.

Jozy Altidore and Sunderland tied Southampton 2-2, with Altidore starting and playing 72 minutes. Cody Cropper was not in the squad for Southampton.

Geoff Cameron put in his customary 90-minute shift for Stoke City at right-back. The Potters lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace.

Sebastian Lletget was not involved for West Ham’s 3-1 loss to Newcastle.

Tim Howard and Everton play West Bromwich Albion on Monday.

The Bundesliga will be back in action next weekend, but there is still some news to report.

Michael Parkhurst finally ended his awful year at Augsburg, securing a move to MLS’ Columbus Crew this week. In a full year with the German club, Parkhurst played in only two games.

Julian Green was also in the news, scoring in a winter-break friendly for Bayern Munich.

Elsewhere in Europe

Juan Agudelo will be joining the contingent of Americans playing in Europe after he signed with Stoke City this week and was immediately loaned to Dutch Eredivisie side Utrecht.

Aron Johannsson and AZ Alkmaar beat NAC Breda 3-0 with Johannsson scoring AZ’s second goal (video of the goal can be seen here).

Terrence Boyd and Rapid Vienna have not yet resumed Austrian Bundesliga action, but it was reported that Boyd scored twice in a winter-break friendly.

Sacha Kljestan played the second half of Anderlecht’s 2-1 loss to KV Mechelen.

Alejandro Bedoya and Nantes play Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday afternoon.

Mix Diskerud, Conor O’Brien and Josh Gatt are all still on winter break, but Gatt is back in Molde and on the verge of returning to action.

In the English Championship

Oguchi Onyewu got the start and went 90 minutes in Sheffield Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley. Gooch reportedly picked up the assist in the draw.

Brek Shea played 77 minutes in Barnsley’s 2-0 win over Blackpool, but was his side’s lowest-rated starter.

Danny Williams and Reading gave Tim Ream and Bolton a 7-1 lashing. Williams and Ream both went the distance, with Ream reportedly committing an error that led to one of Reading’s goals. Stuart Holden is still recovering from injury.

Gboly Ariyibi was not in the squad for Leeds' 1-0 loss to Leicester.

Birmingham lost 2-0 to Yeovil. Will Packwood made the bench but did not play. Jonathan Spector is still recovering from injury.

Eric Lichaj was not involved in Nottingham Forest’s match.

Duane Holmes did not make it off the bench in Huddersfield’s 2-1 loss to QPR.

Former U.S. youth international Villyan Bijev is reportedly a target of League One side Wolverhampton.

South of the Border

In midweek Copa MX action, both Paul Arriola and Jose Torres scored. Arriola’s goal came in action for Tijuana’s second-division side Dorados as he scored the third goal in the 3-1 win. Torres’ goal was the game-winner in Tigres’ 1-0 victory over San Luis.

In weekend Liga MX action, Tijuana lost 2-1 to Pachuca with Edgar Castillo and Herculez Gomez starting. Gomez went the distance with Castillo being replaced in the 82nd minute by fellow Yank Paul Arriola. Joe Corona came on in the 76th minute; Greg Garza did not get off the bench.

Jose Torres came on in the 56th minute of Tigres’ 2-0 loss to Morelia.

DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco both started for Puebla in their 0-0 draw with Santos. Orozco went the distance while Beasley came off after 65 minutes.
