A lot can change in six months in terms of form and injuries, but right now it appears there are four main contenders for the championship: host nation Brazil, reigning champion Spain, Germany and Argentina. While there are plenty of talented squads capable of making a run, these four teams are seemingly a step above the rest.

Of course, all it takes is one upset to open the door for other teams. Belgium, England, Italy, France, Portugal and the Netherlands will be among the other hopefuls waiting for their break or a chance to take down one of those top sides to spark a deep run.

The tournament is also a chance for the sport's biggest stars to shine. From veteran superstars like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta to those on the rise such as Neymar and Mario Gotze, the World Cup is an opportunity to showcase their talent on a worldwide stage.
