Fantasy NASCAR Picks for Sprint Cup Series at Homestead-Miami
This week the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Ford EcoBoost 400.
It all comes down to this week’s race. The final race of the season is upon us, and winning or losing your league could come down to the checkered flag at Homestead. Hopefully you have some drivers left who can help your team outscore your opponents.
This week is pretty easy for choosing your fantasy team. If you have any starts with the drivers in the Chase, use them. If you do not, read on and I will try to help.
Homestead is a 1.5-mile oval race track. The cars who are able to find the perfect handling setup will dominate the race. Look for the drivers who performed well at Texas to perform well again this week (Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Joey Logano, Kasey Kahne and Brad Keselowski).
Here are my selections for the race Sunday at Homestead.
Group A
1 of 4
The obvious choice this week in Group A is Jimmie Johnson. Johnson is on his way to his sixth championship and establishing himself as the best driver in NASCAR history. If you can use Johnson on your team this week, you should.
Matt Kenseth should be a popular pick this week as well. Joe Gibbs Racing will provide Kenseth all of the resources to finish up front. Kenseth has been hit or miss in his career at Homestead. All signs point to him being a hit this week.
Kevin Harvick could steal the show Sunday with a win at Homestead. Harvick has been very good on the 1.5-mile race tracks. He also has been very good at Homestead. Harvick has finished nine of the last 10 races at Homestead in the top 10. He will easily do it again on Sunday.
Jeff Gordon is my sleeper pick this week. It is hard to imagine Hendrick Motorsports providing Gordon the equipment he needs to win the race. The team’s focus will be on Johnson this week, but Gordon’s past success at Homestead makes him a good sleeper pick.
Below are my rankings for Group A. It will be hard to go wrong with any of these drivers this week.
1. Jimmie Johnson
2. Matt Kenseth
3. Kevin Harvick
4. Jeff Gordon
5. Clint Bowyer
6. Brad Keselowski
7. Denny Hamlin
8. Kasey Kahne
Group B
2 of 4
Group B is where fantasy teams will need to make up ground on their competition. Most teams will have the same drivers for Group A and Group C. Finding the two drivers from Group B who will score the maximum amount of points will be important this week.
Carl Edwards should be on every team this week. He is by far the best driver in Group B at Homestead. If you have any starts left with Edwards, you should use him this week.
The last thing you want to do is end the season with any starts left with Kyle Busch. He only has one top-five finish at Homestead, but he is the best driver in Group B. You have to use him this week if you can.
Martin Truex Jr. has been good on the 1.5-mile race tracks this year and his statistics at Homestead are good. Last year Truex started seventh and finished sixth and in 2011 he started second and finished third. Truex will be up front on Sunday.
My sleeper pick in Group B is Joey Logano. He has not had much success at Homestead, but he has been one of the better drivers in the Chase. He will end his season on a high note with a top-10 finish at Homestead.
Below are my rankings for Group B. The top-eight drivers on this list are all good choices this week.
1. Carl Edwards
2. Kyle Busch
3. Martin Truex Jr.
4. Joey Logano
5. Greg Biffle
6. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
7. Ryan Newman
8. Aric Almirola
9. Kurt Busch
10. Jamie McMurray
11. Mark Martin
12. Jeff Burton
13. Paul Menard
14. Juan Pablo Montoya
15. Marcos Ambrose
Group C
3 of 4
Group C will be the easiest group to pick this week.
Every team should have starts left with Elliott Sadler and he should be on every team this week. Sadler has raced well since he started to fill in for Brian Vickers in the No. 55 car. There is no need to try and be cute this week. Use Sadler for your team and collect the points.
Ricky Stenhouse is the second-best choice in Group C. All teams should have used their nine starts with Stenhouse by now, but if for some reason you can use him this week, he would be a great backup to Sadler.
My sleeper pick in Group C is A.J. Allmendinger. He performed better in the No. 51 car than he has in the No. 47 car this year, but as the team prepares for next season he could be a good pick.
Below are my rankings for Group C. The top-three drivers on this list are all good choices this week.
1. Elliott Sadler
2. Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
3. A.J. Allmendinger
4. Trevor Bayne
5. Kyle Larson
6. Danica Patrick
7. Casey Mears
8. David Ragan
9. David Ruetimann
10. David Gilliland
11. Josh Wise
12. Parker Klingerman
13. Dave Blaney
14. Travis Kvapil
15. J.J. Yeeley
16. Joe Nemechek
