First half analysis

Szczesny: Hasn't had too much to do, with Dortmund's best chances flying wide of his right-hand post. Has been alert to crosses and distributed well.

Sagna: Little opportunity to get forward so far. The movement of Dortmund's front players is giving the full-backs a little trouble at times.

Mertesacker: Strong in one-on-one challenges when he's needed to be.

Koscielny: Good reading of the game has allowed him to make a few key challenges and clearances so far.

Gibbs: Similar to Sagna, not at his best but not being given the opportunity. Defending relatively well so far.

Arteta: Being overrun and outpaced in midfield. Struggling and needs to keep his temper in check.

Ramsey: Not at all influential so far in terms of helping the Gunners get forward, but working hard and has been neat in possession.

Ozil: Very quiet. No service to him. Wasteful in possession.

Rosicky: Intelligent movement to take advantage of Schmelzer going forward, but difficult to pinpoint where he can make that count with creating chances.

Cazorla: Again quiet but working hard.

Giroud: Very little to do beyond chase the centre-backs in possession. Will hope for at least a couple of set pieces to attack after the break.

Second half analysis

Szczesny: Made a few important saves but certainly had an easier night than he would have expected.

Sagna: Largely same as first half; did well on the ball and strong enough in defence.

Mertesacker: Excellent in repelling danger in the air and on the ground.

Koscielny: Another good game in defence, dealt well with Lewandowski.

Gibbs: Out-thought at times by the movement of the Dortmund attack but did enough.

Arteta: The game passed him by far too easily.

Ramsey: Hard-working, efficient in possession and the crucial goal once again.

Rosicky: Good movement and tracked back well, little chance to impact in final third.

Ozil: Well out of the game as Dortmund dominated the midfield areas. Biggest impact came in cutting out a through-pass inside his own area as the home team countered.

Cazorla: Some important moments in the game with his link-up play. Worked hard.

Giroud: Thankless running due to little service, but a telling header turned out to be an assist for the match-winning goal.
