Xavier Woods, Kane and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
The theme of the latest WWE NXT news is impending movement, as in Xavier Woods inching ever closer to the main roster and Kane bringing his new look to Full Sail University.
Two top indy names are reportedly on the move from Ring of Honor to WWE developmental while a 2012 Olympian has already inked a deal with the company. In addition, a former ring announcer is making her way back.
WWE continues to stock its developmental cabinet with a variety of talent, all hoping to do what Woods is reportedly set to do, transition from prospect to Superstar.
From a member of Team USA heading to the WWE Performance Center to "The Devil's Favorite Demon" making an appearance away from the main roster, here is the week's NXT news.
Olympian Signs with WWE
1 of 5
WWE developmental snagged an Olympian.
Chas Betts, who competed for the United States at the 2012 Olympics in London, announced on his Facebook page that he signed with WWE. He wrote, "I am proud to announce I have signed a contract with WWE and begin training tomorrow at the WWE Performance Center here in Florida."
NBCSports.com noted that Betts was USA Wrestling’s 2012 Greco-Roman Wrestler of the Year.
Betts is 5'8'' and wrestled in the 84-kilogram (about 185 lbs) weight class. He will look to join a long list of wrestlers who competed for their countries in the Olympics before turning pro including Riki Choshu, Masa Saito, Verne Gagne and Kurt Angle.
Xavier Woods Coming Soon
2 of 5Numerous signs point to Xavier Woods being the next NXT prospect to get called up to the main roster.
On Oct. 30, WrestleZone.com reported that Woods is "slated to debut on the main roster in the near future, and WWE is currently awaiting a story line for him."
Recent events have seen Woods edge closer to that moment. WrestlingInc.com noted that "Woods was backstage at Monday's RAW in Greenville" and the following day he worked a dark match during the SmackDown tapings against El Local (Ricardo Rodriguez).
His expected promotion will come as a surprise to some as Woods has not been one of the most talked about prospects on the roster. Guys like Sami Zayn, for example, have garnered more buzz.
Woods, though, has the advantage of being a great fit for doing promotional and charity work as he's seen doing in the above video.
Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards Update
3 of 5Whether or not Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards will sign with WWE has been the source of reports, rumors and speculation.
According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer, via WrestlingInc.com, the two former Ring of Honor world champs coming to WWE is "still in play." Meltzer writes the following of their progress in getting a contract.
"It is a very unique situation that is still being played out. The most I can say is the people you would expect not to want them don't, and the people you would expect to want them do. I've continually emphasized that they neither have been turned down, nor signed to a deal.
"
It's unclear how long these discussions will go on, but continued reports about the two sides meeting points to WWE having strong interest. Judging by a recent promo he gave, Edwards seems to believe that it's a done deal.
WrestleZone.com quoted Edwards as telling the crowd in Preston City, England the following.
"I don't really need to go on about the rumors about me and Eddie – where we're headed – for legal reasons. But if this is my last time here, my last time on this tour, in this ring, last time in front of you guys, you guys have no idea how you've saved my life.
"
That's hard to not take as a sign that Edwards has a deal in the works and doesn't want to or can't announce it until everything is official. Fans of Edwards and Richards, "The American Wolves," will certainly want to keep a close eye on wrestling outlets in the coming weeks to see how this plays out.
Brandi Runnels Is Back
4 of 5Brandi Runnels was once Eden Stiles, ring announcer for WWE. She is reportedly back on her way to WWE developmental under the name Brandi Rhodes.
WrestlingInc.com reports that Runnels "will begin training at the WWE Performance Center."
Runnels recently married current tag team champion Cody Rhodes and was last in the developmental system when it was called Florida Championship Wrestling. She undoubtedly has the looks to make it in the Divas division, and her relationship with Rhodes will be a boost as well.
Kane Is Coming
5 of 5
The Nov. 21 NXT show is looking more and more like it's worth a long drive and the price of admission.
As reported by PWMania.com, Kane will be headed to Full Sail University along with Kofi Kingston and Natalya. Kane, who recently shifted to a new corporate look, will be an intriguing opponent for one of NXT's prospects.
A brawler like Leo Kruger would be a good fit as would a speedster like Adrian Neville.
Some NXT purists may bemoan the appearance of so many main-roster talents at Full Sail, but this merging of both of WWE's worlds is good for business. Officials can see what a prospect looks like against an established talent, and WWE has an easier time creating buzz for this event with bigger names like Kane.
