Arsenal Transfer News: Luis Suarez's Latest Comments Bode Well for Gunners

Patrick ClarkeJun 3, 2018

Luis Suarez has gone from disgruntled to outraged over his current situation with Liverpool this summer, and recent comments made by the Uruguayan star, reported by the Daily Mirror's Ben Curtis, had to sound like music to Arsene Wenger's ears.

Suarez has made it known that he is unhappy at Anfield and that he wants to play for a top-flight club set to contend for the UEFA Champions League next season. But if Liverpool decide to sell, will it be to Arsenal, Real Madrid or another interested club somewhere off the radar?

In a recent interview, Suarez made his desire known while calling out the club for not giving him an opportunity to compete in the Champions League this coming season, as reported by Curtis:

"

I’m 26, I need to be playing in the Champions League.

I feel I’ve done enough to be playing in the Champions League at this stage of my career. Now there’s an option for me to do that and I want very much to take it.

I don’t feel betrayed but the club promised me something a year ago just as I promised them I would stay and try everything possible to get us into the Champions League.

They gave me their word a year ago and now I want them to honour that. It’s not just something verbal with the coach but something written in the contract.

"

The only question that can be asked in the wake of comments like those is how much longer Liverpool will hang on to Suarez in hopes that his attitude will change?

Brendan Rodgers and captain Steven Gerrard have provided constant encouragement in an attempt to persuade the Uruguayan to stick around, as reported by Ben Curtis in the Mirror; however, their efforts appear to have had very little impact on Suarez. And while a nightmare may be unfolding for the Reds, Arsenal can bring it to an end by signing the 26-year-old this summer.

According to The Telegraph, Wenger and Arsenal have made it clear that they are interested in acquiring the star forward, who scored 23 goals in 33 league appearances last season. The Gunners have money to spend and can offer Suarez Champions League football in 2013-14.

Before his fiery interview, Suarez seemed content to patiently let the situation play itself out. But now, Suarez has aided Arsenal and other interested clubs by firing more shots in Liverpool's direction, thus giving the club even more reason to part ways with him. Sending him elsewhere doesn't help the squad improve at all, but it would eliminate what would be a mighty distraction for the Reds this coming season.

Although Liverpool will be reluctant to move Suarez to another contending Premier League club, if the price is right they'll have very little leverage.

After Arsenal's £40 million bid failed to land Suarez last month, it appeared as if the Gunners would be forced to give up their pursuit of one of the world's elite goalscorers. But now the chase can continue, as Arsenal's No. 1 target has made it clear that above all else he wants the opportunity to compete in the Champions League.
