WWE fans in Buffalo, NY are set to experience history.

The first-ever edition of WWE Battleground is headed to the First Niagara Center. The pay-per-view will replace Over the Limit on the WWE calendar.

Sandwiched in between Night of Champions and Hell in a Cell, WWE Battleground makes its debut on Oct. 6.

WWE.com announced the change on Monday, writing that "the inaugural WWE Battleground is sure to be a spectacular that no WWE fan will want to miss."

Over the Limit ends after only three years. Aside from a quality I Quit match between Dave Batista and John Cena and an all-time classic at last year's event between Daniel Bryan and CM Punk, the pay-per-view didn't create many lasting memories. It won't take much for Battleground to overtake its predecessor in terms of impact or longevity.

Joining Breaking Point, Fully Loaded and Taboo Tuesday, Over the Limit now goes into the pile of defunct shows.

Its replacement must overcome a crowded schedule in order to succeed.

WWE Battleground will be the first of two shows in the month of October, giving the company little time to build toward Hell in a Cell and very little time after Night of Champions to showcase the stories heading into this new event.

That could spell a hurried, rematch-heavy pay-per-view.

SummerSlam and Night of Champions will have a major say in which events will headline the first edition of the new pay-per-view. Bryan could be the WWE Champion and one of the Money in the Bank winners could have cashed in by then.

Can WWE have Battleground become a stable part of the calendar like newcomers Extreme Rules and Money in the Bank or will we see another name change or replacement in a few years?

Narrative execution in a cramped time frame is going to be key. A few awesome matches wouldn't hurt either.
