Full Scouting Report
Domi was one of the top playmakers in the 2013 draft, and he oozes creativity and talent. The Knights’ pivot is also a diabetic and celiac, and he has had to keep his body in peak condition at all times. For that reason, he is a fit player who is an amazing skater.
Domi also sees the ice in a unique way, and he seems to thread the needle in a way that Sidney Crosby does. He also is a great puck-handler and he is great at protecting the puck while maneuvering through traffic. Domi also has some of his dad’s feistiness, and he is a player who can hold his own physically.
Of all Domi’s skills, scouts are most impressed with his offensive ability, and his calmness while under pressure. Todd Cordell of The Hockey Guys followed Domi throughout the season, and he feels that he could be something special.
Max Domi is quite the package. He’s loaded with skill, is a dynamic offensive player and is one of the best skaters in this year’s class. Domi’s stride is explosive, to say the least. He has an incredibly high top speed and it doesn’t take him long to reach it. He’s extremely shifty and is very good with stops and starts and at cutting strides.
He’s not a big guy but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in heart and feistiness. He won’t back down from anyone and he rarely gets outworked. While Domi’s willing to mix it up physically, he’s very good at getting under the skin of his opponents and drawing penalties. Domi sees the ice very well and is an excellent playmaker. His hockey sense is through the roof and there are very few passes he can’t make. Domi isn’t afraid to go to the dirty areas of the ice and has no problem filling the net, either. His hands are incredible and he can often be found stick handling in a phone booth.
Domi may appear to be small in nature, but this prospect sure does pack a punch.
NHL Player Comparison
Matt Duchene of the Colorado Avalanche. Domi is a skilled offensive forward with speed, and he oozes creativity.
Domi has the skill, endurance and mindset of an NHL player, but it would be prudent for him to make his NHL debut during the 2014-15 season.
Domi is a very exciting prospect who has a lot of talent and potential. He has the NHL pedigree, he trains with Sidney Crosby and he has a similar skill set. Domi has the potential to be a very good first-line center who could score 75 or more points a season because he has an impressive arsenal of tools.
