Part 2 in a series of articles about each of the players that make up the 2009 Los Angeles Sol.
Los Angeles Sol midfielder Camile Abily forms an integral part in Abner Rogers' 4-4-2 formation.
But then again, being an integral part of her team has been Camile's nature. With a proven track record of championship success playing for clubs in France, the most notable being Olympique Lyonnais, Abily is poised to equate that success in the WPS.
Abily was born on December 5, 1984 in Rennes. Rennes is the capital of the Bretagne (or Brittany) region and the department of Ille-et-Vilaine.
Not too far from where Abily grew up is a stadium called the Route de Lorient, or Lorient Road. It's the home of Stade Rennais FC, whose academy developed players such as Chelsea's Petr Cech and Bordeaux's Yoann Gourcuff, and whose first teach includes notable faces such as Carlos Bocanegra, Asamoah Gyan and captain Petter Hansson.
Abily began her footballing journey at the age of six, playing for youth sides such as Jeanne d'Arc Bruz, FC Bruz and SC Le Rheu over the course of a decade.
Her development as a youth player led her to her first appearance at the senior level, playing for nearby Stade Briochin in Saint-Brieuc.
While Stade Briochin's men are floundering in the Championnat National Division 2 Amateur, the women compete in the Championnat de France de football féminin D1, which is the equivalent of Ligue 1 in the country.
During her run with the club, Stade Briochin won the last of nine Cups of Brittany (Coupes de Bretagne), in 2000.
Over the course of her first four seasons playing at the senior level, Abily earned 20 caps and scored four times for Stade Briochin before plying her trade with stints at La Roche ESOF (21 caps, 3 goals) and CNFE Clairefontaine (17 caps, 5 goals).
In 2001, Abily was called on to represent her country, making her international debut on September 26 against the Netherlands. Since then, Abily has earned 42 caps, with eight goals for Les Bleus.
