The latest rumors surrounding Chelsea in the past few weeks include some of the biggest names in football right now.
Ferguson confirmed to Sky Sports 1 (via ESPN) that Rooney has handed in a transfer request. Although he insisted the striker will not be sold, it looks like the Englishman could be on his way out of Old Trafford.
Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea have all been rumored to be very interested in attaining Rooney. However, John Edwards of The Daily Mail reported Munich has denied their interest.
Chelsea seems to have a somewhat clear path to Rooney should Manchester United be willing to sell him to one of its biggest rivals. Rooney would compliment the Blues well and would most likely not have to play second fiddle to Fernando Torres, as he has this past season to Robin van Persie.
Rooney is still one of the best footballers in the world, and Chelsea could get him for as little as £25 million.
According to Matt Law of The Mirror, not only is Jose Mourinho on his way back to Stamford Bridge, he is bringing Sami Khedira with him as well. Supposedly Mourinho has stated the key areas he wants to fix once back at Chelsea, and the central midfield was first on his list.
Khedira is a defensive midfielder who has the ability to quietly control a match. The German could prove to be a better option than the Blues' current defensive midfielders, John Obi Mikel and Oriol Romeu. Khedira is one of Mourinho's preferred options in Madrid at that position.
On the German National Team, Khedira is a mainstay and gets the nod alongside Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger. He can be a huge addition to Chelsea should they choose to pay the estimated £20 million for him.
There were numerous rumors speculating that Xabi Alonso could follow Mourinho to Chelsea this summer. However, the player has denied the link.
Alonso told Spanish publication Marca (via The Telegraph) that he expects to be a Madridista next season, dashing the Blues' hopes of potentially signing him. Because Alonso is one of the best midfielders in the world, he would have been a nice addition to Chelsea.
His tackling is top notch, and his passing would have provided exceptional balls forward to the likes of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Oscar and Fernando Torres.
Alonso may have denied his link to Chelsea because of his former club Liverpool. The Spaniard left the club on good terms and, undoubtedly, its fans would love to have him back at Anfield one day. Going to one of its biggest competitors may not be an option.
However, neither team will have Alonso next season as he is determined to stay at Real Madrid.
