Ryback Speaks on Extreme Rules; Defeats Daniel Bryan
This week's edition of SmackDown started out with Ryback grabbing hold of a microphone. As one might expect, the No. 1 contender had harsh words for WWE Champion John Cena.
With the two set to meet at WWE Extreme Rules, Ryback took to the mic to speak on the latest developments in the feud—specifically Cena's injured right Achilles tendon.
On this past week's WWE Monday Night Raw, Cena teamed with Kane and Daniel Bryan in a six-man tag team match against The Shield. The Chain Gang leader was impressive, but he ultimately fell victim to a Roman Reigns spear.
Ryback quickly suggested he back out of their WWE Championship match before his Achilles tendon injury became worse.
On SmackDown, Cena's tag team partner from Raw, Bryan, stepped up to the plate to take on Ryback. Although the match went back and forth, it eventually landed in Ryback's favor by way of the Shell Shock.
Ryback appears to be primed and ready for taking Cena's belt.
Del Rio, Rodriguez Win Six-Man Tag Team Match
Ricardo Rodriguez's winning streak continues!
Rodriguez teamed with Alberto Del Rio in a six-man tag team match against World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler and Big E. Langston, and the team of Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter. By way of submission, Rodriguez and Del Rio won.
This comes not too far removed from Rodriguez's victory over Langston and Colter in a triple threat match on Raw.
With Del Rio and Swagger both competing for Ziggler's World Heavyweight Championship, tensions were clearly high. Everyone needed this win, but it was the former champion who proved supreme on this night.
A temporary fix of momentum, indeed.
The Shield Beat Down Daniel Bryan
If losing to Ryback wasn't hard enough, Daniel Bryan managed to draw the attention of The Shield. This led to a 3-on-1 beatdown backstage, which later forced Kane to make the statement that The Shield will pay.
Could The Shield be coming for the tag team titles?
Mark Henry defeats Sheamus in an Arm Wrestling Contest
It may not have been your traditional form of wrestling, but Mark Henry took Sheamus down in an arm wrestling contest. This played into Henry's reputation as The World's Strongest Man, as he reigned supreme over a fellow powerhouse in a test of strength.
Just don't think that Sheamus would let it stand at that.
Sheamus proceeded to challenge Henry to a rematch, this time going with their left arms. Henry accepted, but was blindsided by a right hand from Sheamus and thus entered into a brawl in the middle of the ring.
For the second consecutive show, Sheamus left Henry back-first on the mat.
Dean Ambrose defeats Kane
True to his word, Kane took to the main event to exact revenge on The Shield by way of a singles match against Dean Ambrose. Kane certainly came out firing like the madman we know that he can be.
Unfortunately, it was yet another case of the numbers game.
Ambrose defeated Kane in singles action and The Shield put on their second 3-on-1 beating of the night. After taking it to Daniel Bryan earlier in the night, there was no one to save Kane from this vicious display of a gang mentality.
If Kane and Bryan aren't careful, the next attack could give The Shield the tag team titles.
