The new jersey, like the new logo, had been prematurely released prior to when the official unveiling was scheduled. As pictured above, you can also see the new helmets which will be worn with the new aqua and white jerseys.
As far as my thoughts on these new jerseys, I am not necessarily jumping for joy. I happened to love the old logo and old jerseys. When they were released in the mid-90's, it was a huge upgrade from the older jerseys worn by greats like Dan Marino and Bob Griese.
The new uniforms appear to be a downgrade from what were worn from the mid-90's until the end of the 2012-13 season.
The new jerseys signify the beginning of a new era, attempting to get rid of the long-lasting memory of missed playoff appearances since Dan Marino retired in 1999. The Dolphins have brought in loads of new talent over the past two off-seasons, including Ryan Tannehill, Mike Wallace, Lamar Miller, and Dannell Ellerbe.
Tannehill appears poised to be the franchise quarterback for many years to come. Wallace looks to be his main man catching balls downfield and spreading the field for other receivers to get open. Miller comes in as a second-year pro hoping to showcase his top-end speed and beat out Daniel Thomas for the No. 1 running back slot. Ellerbe will join forces on a defensive unit spearheaded by sack-machine Cameron Wake.
While player personnel has been gaining a new look, general manager Jeff Ireland has worked the past two years to revamp his coaching staff. He brought in former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin as the new head coach in 2012 as well as former Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman to run the offense.
Perhaps the new wave of players and coaching personnel needs a new look so fans can move on from the past.
The Dolphins 2013 schedule will test the team early on. If they can get through the early rough stretch of games, they have a chance to prove that a new era is indeed ahead of them.
