At the end of Monday night’s throwback episode of Monday Night Raw, the last thing television viewers saw was CM Punk and The Undertaker in a stare down.
But once Undertaker and Punk left, the show wasn’t over for those in attendance.
According to both WrestlingInc.com and WWE.com, after the broadcast ended, The Shield made their way through the crowd and brutally attacked Big Show. Not only did they pounce on Show like bees on honey, but they also ended their attack with a massive three-man powerbomb on The World’s Largest Athlete.
WrestlingInc.com posted an 18-second clip:
(For those curious, the full clip of the attack can be found on WWE.com here.)
This is an interesting turn of events, as it was the first time The Shield directly targeted another heel in the ring. But not without reason. On SmackDown, the team of Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns interfered in the bout between Show and Randy Orton.
While The Shield brawled with Orton and Sheamus, who came to aid Orton, Show regained his feet and unleashed on The Shield. Not only did Show sling the trio from NXT around the ring, but he nearly knocked Reigns out with the KO Punch.
At the time, it made The Shield look weak. But after this Monday’s Raw, could something bigger be afoot?
Show’s most recent heel turn has run out of gas. He had a nice run with the world heavyweight title at the end of 2012. But since losing the belt to Alberto Del Rio, he has yet to regain his footing.
Yes, he has been winning matches. But now that he is no longer in the title picture, where is he left to go? Rumors have been bouncing around that Show would face Ryback at WrestleMania. But at this past week’s Raw, a tense stare down between Ryback and Henry seemed to hint at a possible bout between the two powerhouses.
It would be very interesting to see Show turn back into a face to thwart the momentum of Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns. The three men from NXT have been unstoppable as of late. Show would provide them with their biggest foe yet.
After Show was attacked, John Cena, Sheamus and Ryback charged the ring and a dark match occurred. According to the article, The Shield used a chair to get disqualified. All three babyfaces hit their finishers to wrap up the evening’s events.
Cena is obviously done with The Shield for now, as he turns his attention to fighting The Rock at WrestleMania XXIX. Sheamus has still been sticking his nose in the ring with them. But the inclusion of Ryback is strange. Even though he has been feuding with The Shield for some time, Orton has been on the biggest receiving end as of late.
What would be most interesting would be for Ryback to move on to face Henry and let Show come to the defense of the WWE. For as much time as he has put in, he deserves that much.
