Super Bowl Commercials 2013: Watch Kaley Cuoco Grant Wishes in Toyota's New Ad

Adam WellsFeb 3, 2013

If you are CBS, and the Super Bowl is airing on your network, it makes sense that you would want to put one of the stars from your biggest hit in a commercial during the Big Game.

Kaley Cuoco, who plays Penny on The Big Bang Theory, continues her trend of dominating the small screen in a new ad for Toyota. She has also been helping William Shatner do whatever it is William Shatner does in a different spot that has been airing for the last few months.

This time around Cuoco gets to play a genie who grants any and all wishes that a family has after they purchased a new Toyota Rav4.

Even though Cuoco is clearly meant to be the star of the spot, it is the family that gets the bulk of the punchlines. The father, unsurprisingly, wastes a wish on getting rid of a spare tire and his second wish is misunderstood to be for "infinite witches" instead of "infinite wishes."

In some ways what Toyota does with the spot is a good thing. Rather than let the known commodity (Cuoco) take over the entire commercial and let people forget what they are seeing, it always make the car the focus of the ad.

Another smart move by the people who put the ad together is they allowed Cuoco to do what she does best on The Big Bang Theory: allow her to be sarcastic.

The interaction between Cuoco and Jim Parsons' Sheldon Cooper is a big part of what makes the show so popular. He makes a condescending statement about her lack of education or something along those lines, and she responds with some dry comment that gets a laugh.

While the sarcasm isn't as biting in the spot as it is on the show, it is clear the producers know what Cuoco does best and take advantage of it.

Plus, even though some of the things get exaggerated since this is television, the spot provides all the important features and accessories you might want to know about if you were thinking of buying a new car.

Kudos to Toyota for taking advantage of Cuoco's celebrity on the biggest sitcom currently airing and providing actual information about its product to convince people they need this item.
