Well, this news is coming from left field: It appears The Undertaker may not be a part of WrestleMania 29.
According to PWInsider.com (via WrestlingInc.com):
There was talk at Monday's RAW that one of the reasons The Undertaker didn't make an appearance at the Royal Rumble is because he's not so sure that he will work WrestleMania 29 now.
The plan had been for Taker to wrestle CM Punk but WWE officials are still waiting on Taker's decision. There's a feeling among some within WWE that Taker will end up wrestling but the discussion at RAW was they may have to come up with another WrestleMania storyline for Punk.
Ultimately, this is just speculation right now, so who knows what will happen. However, I am still surprised by this news, as it was rumored that "The Phenom" had hand-picked Punk to be his challenger at "The Granddaddy of Them All." Not to mention, he only really has one match a year, making it seem that he would be a lock for this event.
Personally, at the very least, I would like to see Taker get some sort of WrestleMania send-off match. Even is it doesn't happen this year, he needs to receive a proper goodbye.
The fact is, when it comes to longevity, The Undertaker is truly the last man standing from the Hulkamania years, and he has done a great job at changing with the times
Let's face it, he could have run this gimmick to the ground decades ago. However, he somehow managed to transcend and make The Undertaker character relevant throughout every WWE era that he has been involved in.
Keep in mind that if he sits this one out, it wouldn't be the first 'Mania that he's missed. Even though he is undefeated at the event, it's not a consecutive-year streak, as he missed both WrestleMania X and 2000. But even though he missed those events, his reputation was never tarnished, and "The Streak" managed to live on.
In the end, we will have to wait and see if Taker will be a part of the show or if we have seen the last days of this legendary wrestler.
