Arizona State football's class for the 2013 season is coming together nicely.
With 21 men already committed to coach Todd Graham and the Sun Devils, plans are being made and rotation projections are all the rage right now (see my article on my projections for the Sun Devils here).
There are still many prized players that have yet to commit to any school leading up to National Signing Day on February 6.
Here is the list of the best of the best that have been offered scholarships by Coach Graham and the Arizona State Sun Devils.
Size: 6'2", 190 pounds
Hometown: Tempe, Ariz.
Rivals.com Rank: 4-star, No. 10 CB in nation
Scout.com Rank: 5-star, No. 4 CB in nation
Willis is a hometown hero and would definitely be a jewel in the crown for Graham and the Sun Devils. The Sun Devils have commitments from two Scout.com four-star recruits in linebacker Chans Cox and quarterback Joshua Dobbs, but a true five-star talent would be a great pickup for Graham.
Willis has offers from schools across the country, from Washington to Florida State and many stops in between, including Nebraska, Notre Dame and Oklahoma. He has made visits to Nebraska, LSU, FSU, and he is scheduled to visit UCLA on Friday.
Position: Wide Receiver
Size: 6'1", 190 pounds
Hometown: Phoenix, Ariz.
Rivals.com Rank: 4-star, No. 36 WR in nation
Scout.com Rank: 5-star, No. 16 WR in nation
Another hometown hero from exclusive Brophy College Prep in downtown Phoenix, Allen is a speedy receiver with good hands. He is also a state champion track star in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.
Allen is widely sought after for his speed and ability to leap over corners and safeties that are looking to go low on him. He has received numerous offers, but Allen has only made a visits to Oregon, Stanford and UCLA.
Allen still plans on visiting Arkansas on the weekend of Feb. 1st to meet with football coach Bret Bielema and track coach Chris Bucknam.
Position: Defensive End
Size: 6'4", 290 pounds
Hometown: Punta Gorda, Fla./Dodge City C.C.
Rivals.com Rank: 4-star, No. 14 JuCo recruit in nation
Scout.com Rank: 3-star, No. 10 JuCo DE in nation
Hardison played high school ball in Florida and is scheduled to graduate from Dodge City Community College in the Spring. He will have three seasons to play two at the Division I level.
He posted on his Twitter that he was going to make his decision on Friday, and it seems pretty good for Arizona State, although he has made visits to Kansas State and West Virginia since visiting Tempe back in November.
Position: Offensive Tackle
Size: 6'8", 305 pounds
Hometown: San Pablo, Calif./ Contra Costa C.C.
Rivals.com Rank: 3-star, No. 34 JuCo recruit in nation
Scout.com Rank: 3-star, No. 8 JuCo OT in nation
Harrison was being heavily recruited by USC, but their interest in him has cooled as of late. He has made four visits, including Arizona State, Texas, Oklahoma and NC State. It is believed that he will be choosing between ASU, Texas and Oklahoma.
The selling point for Harrison to commit to Arizona State? Two of his Contra Costa teammates have already committed to Graham and the Sun Devils. Defensive end Demetrius Cherry committed to ASU over a month ago, and Eriquel Florence committed on Christmas Day.
The need for a big, 300-pound-plus lineman is huge, and his junior college experience will be a big plus if Harrison is needed to fill in immediately.
Position: Wide Receiver
Size: 5'10", 180 pounds
Hometown: Santa Monica, Calif.
Rivals.com Rank: 4-star, No. 32 WR in nation
Scout.com Rank: 4-star, No. 44 WR in nation
Sebastian LaRue committed to the USC Trojans back in June, but he reported on Twitter on Jan. 2 that he decommitted.
He has visits schedules for Texas A&M and Notre Dame later this month. He will be hosted by Texas' own "Johnny Football" when he visits A&M, so I would imagine that will be a whirlwind trip.
The Devils are going hard for LaRue, as the receiver position was a top priority for Graham. Although ASU has already received several receiver commitments, this would be a good get for Graham.
These prospects are the most prominent (or possible) on the horizon. If all of the aforementioned players signed with Arizona State, Sun Devil nation would rejoice.
Graham is looking to sign around the same number as last year, when ASU signed 25 recruits. Depending on who signs in the near future, the door open may remain open for the following recruits that still have offers from Arizona State:
- Reeve Koehler—OG, Hawaii
- Johnny Johnson—CB, California
- L.J. Moore—S, California
- Mitchell Parsons—TE, Colorado
- Sean Harlow—OT, California
- Tre'Vell Dixon—ATH, Louisiana
- Tahaan Goodman—S, California
- Jamel James—RB, Texas
- Nic Purcell—OT, California
- Durham Smythe—TE, Texas
- D.J. Martin—RB, California
- Chris Borrayo—OT, California
- Brandon Vandenburg—TE, California
The majority of the above listed are four-star recruits via Rivals.com, and I am sure that Graham would expand his class beyond the planned 25 if they were to become interested.
