While it really was not a huge surprise, Triple H recently confirmed on an episode of Raw that we have not seen the last of The Undertaker.
The Undertaker has put his undefeated WrestleMania streak on the line every year for the last 20 years, and he will to look to extend that streak at WrestleMania 29. Over the last four years, he has faced both Shawn Michaels and Triple H twice. This year, it appears as though Undertaker will face a different opponent.
It is unclear exactly who he will face, and it is always fun to speculate.
Here are the potential opponents for Undertaker at WrestleMania 29, in order of the likeliness that they will actually square off.
The speculation of Sting potentially joining the WWE seems to never stop. I won't believe it until I see Sting come swinging down from the rafters at a WWE event.
Pretty much since the WWE bought WCW, a potential match between Sting and The Undertaker has been wanted.
I truly think that before it is all said and done, we will get that match. While I do not think it will be at WrestleMania 29, there is always a chance.
I would not be surprised if the WrestleMania match between Undertaker and Sting is the last match of both of their careers.
Since bursting onto the scene over a month ago, The Shield has made a significant impact on the WWE Universe. Its motive and intentions are yet to be truly determined, but I think that's what makes The Shield so intriguing.
If the trio's momentum continues up until WrestleMania, The Shield could very easily see itself in a huge match at the event.
That match could potentially come against the Undertaker.
The Shield has mentioned that it sees something wrong with the current WWE structure and that it is stepping in to fix it. Maybe it feels that a superstar returning for one match a year or being undefeated at WrestleMania is unjust and needs changing.
While the idea of "The Streak vs. The Shield" at WrestleMania 29 is being mentioned among the IWC, I do not see it happening.
The Undertaker is at a point in his career that he doesn't have many matches left. These next WrestleMania matches could be his last. So I suspect that he will only face a top superstar or a big-name guy.
John Cena's modus operandi throughout his career has been that he overcomes the odds. Cena has been able to face every challenge that has been put in front of him and find a way to come out on top (not including WrestleMania 28).
One challenge that has not been thrown his way is trying to end Undertaker's WrestleMania streak. A few years ago, Cena was the top guy on Raw and Undertaker was the top guy on SmackDown. However, their paths never crossed at the WWE's version of the Super Bowl.
With CM Punk holding the WWE Championship and Cena sort of out of the championship picture, it puts him in a spot where he could be the Undertaker's opponent at WrestleMania 29.
I'm not sure how the WWE would do it, but having Cena vs. Taker would definitely be a huge draw.
However, I don't see this happening, either. Undertaker will be a face pretty much no matter what. Cena is the biggest babyface in the company. Having two faces square off is usually not something the WWE does (again, not including Rock vs. Cena at WrestleMania 29).
At this point, it is safe to say the Undertaker is not going to ever lose at WrestleMania. I also don't see the WWE making the face of their company lose at WrestleMania two years in a row. So that just makes the chances of Cena vs. Taker at WrestleMania 29 unlikely.
The feud between The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar seems to go beyond professional wrestling. We saw The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar exchanged words at UFC 121 in 2010.
From then on, speculation has continued to circulate about the idea of the two heavyweights squaring off in some way, whether it be in a WWE ring or a UFC cage.
Now, with Brock Lesnar back with the WWE, those chances seem more realistic than ever.
We have seen Lesnar in two major feuds since his return to the company the day after WrestleMania 28. The first was with Cena, which featured a very entertaining street fight. The other feud was with Triple H.
Lesnar reportedly signed a one-year, appearance-based deal. That contract could end in a match against his long-time rival, The Undertaker, at WrestleMania 29.
You would have to think that Lesnar is going to be in a match at WrestleMania. Whether that is going to be against Undertaker, Ryback or The Rock is yet to be determined.
CM Punk has been WWE Champion for over a year, and he will more than likely face off against The Rock at the Royal Rumble.
In my opinion, The Rock is going to beat Punk and hold the belt until WrestleMania 29. The person that is going to take the belt from The Rock is John Cena.
This leaves Punk out of the WWE picture at WrestleMania and in line for a match with "The Phenom."
Punk is my prediction for Undertaker's opponent at WrestleMania.
Taker vs. Punk has the makings for a very entertaining match and the chance for Punk to have a "career match." This could be one of those matches that lifts Punk to another level, one that we will look back on years from now and say, "That match was awesome."
