Report: World Heavyweight Title Match at WrestleMania 29 Revealed

Imaan JalaliJun 5, 2018

Amid the myriad of fan speculation and news pieces, not much has been said about the world heavyweight championship picture at WrestleMania 29.

Seemingly, reports have tended to swirl around the other top belt—the WWE title—as well as proposed matchups that would be contended over it on the grandest stage of all.

Lost in the discussion, however, are the possible participants who would be vying for the world heavyweight championship at Metlife Stadium.

The current holder of the big gold belt, the Big Show, still has a long way to go before he defends his title on April 7, 2013.

And if a new report is to be believed, Show is not only likely to lose his title by then, but he won't even be in the scheduled world heavyweight championship bout.

According to the (members-only) Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are two other headliners who are currently slated to face off for the world heavyweight title:

"

Right now the world title direction for 'Mania is Sheamus vs. [Randy] Orton, which would mean one of them would have to wind up with the title. Orton would be a heel by that point in time if things go as planned.

"

There are a few things one could extrapolate from this news.

First, it increases the odds that Sheamus will take the world heavyweight title off the Big Show as soon as the TLC pay-per-view.

Their chairs match in Brooklyn will mark the third of their series, which, if past precedent is any indication, usually marks the end of a feud. Since Sheamus was the victim of a controversial defeat at Survivor Series, now would be an appropriate time to have him overcome the seven-foot obstacle in his path.

Second, Randy Orton will probably turn heel in time for his WrestleMania encounter with the Irishman, which will mark a role reversal from when the two previously warred in summer 2010.

Adding credence to this are several reports like this one alluding to an upcoming turn to the dark side for the "Viper" (source: F4Wonline.com via WrestlingInc.com).
