Tournament Format
The ATP World Tour Finals are unique in that a player isn't sent home after suffering one loss. Instead, the eight contenders are separated into two groups of four. Then they play three round-robin matches against the other three players in their group. After the round-robin matches have concluded, the two players with the best records from each group will advance to the semifinals. From there the winners move on to the final.

Predictions
After an early exit from the Paribas Masters, world No. 2 Novak Djokovic will be well rested and ready for a grueling season-ending tournament. Djokovic is the only player in the singles-field contenders who has won besides six-time champion Roger Federer.
The Serbian won it all in 2008, and I like his chances this time around in 2012. His game is built for the hard court, and he'll be motivated to finish the year on a high note. Not to mention Federer and Andy Murray have begun looking more and more vulnerable.
Singles champion: Novak Djokovic
As for the doubles competition, it will come down to two pairs: Bob and Mike Bryan and Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor. Mirnyi and Nestor are the defending doubles champions, having won at the ATP World Tour Finals in 2011, while the Bryan brothers have won three times since 2003.
With five of the eight doubles teams making their first appearance at the Tour Finals, expect the Bryan brothers to make a deep run on experience alone and ultimately come away with their fourth championship. They won it all as recently as 2009 and play superbly together in big matches.
Doubles champions: Bob and Mike Bryan
