Breeders' Cup 2012 Picks: Safe Bets That Will Not Disappoint
In some races, the favorites have that title for a reason, and the Breeders’ Cup Classic is one of those events.
There are a few thoroughbreds that are a cut above the competition, and the odds makers have correctly identified these contenders.
While the long shots are tempting, the horses with the worst odds are simply too talented not to bet on. Here are the safe picks that will pay off.
Post time for the race is 8:30 p.m. ET, and all odds are courtesy of BreedersCup.com.
Game on Dude, 9-5
Any result that does not involve Game on Dude crossing the finish line first will be a shocking conclusion to this race.
Bob Baffert’s thoroughbred is that finest contestant in this race and has never lost at Santa Anita, according to BreedersCup.com. Baffert’s horses have owned this track in recent years, and the main event at the Breeders’ Cup will continue this trend.
Game on Dude finished second in the Classic last year, and while there are other talented horses in this race, there is no point in picking any other contestant than Game on Dude to finish first.
Flat Out, 5-1
Bill Mott has three horses in this race, but Flat Out is the one that will turn in the best result.
Game on Dude will own the top spot, but several other impressive thoroughbreds will fight for second. Mott won the Classic last year with Drosselmeyer, and one of his horses will be in contention to win again.
This thoroughbred was many people’s pick to win last year, and despite being outclassed by Game on Dude this time around, it will still come away with an impressive finish.
Ron the Greek, 6-1
Who will win the Classic?
Mott will not be all that disappointed by missing out on the top spot, as two of his horses will place in the Classic.
He has two of the most talented horses in the event, and both thoroughbreds will run excellent races. Flat Out and Ron the Greek will give Game on Dude a serious challenge.
Ron the Greek is a late-charging horse and will make up serious ground in the final few furlongs, but it will not be enough to catch the leaders. Ultimately, a third-place finish will still put a smile on Mott’s face.
These horses won’t provide massive payouts, but they are the safe bets that will take the top spots in the race.
