Trash Talking 101 with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

One of the highlights from UFC 96 was when after defeating Keith Jardine to earn his No. 1 contender status against the LWH champion, Quinton Jackson stares down the reigning champion Rashard Evans warning him there is going to be some more “black-on-black crime” when they fight against each other.

Quinton Jackson does have some pretty classic moments for us to remember him by when he decides to retire one day. Fans are also posting threads in various forums on the Internet for his quotes.

The "black-on-black crime" quote is not the first time Rampage said it to his opponent as well. Back in UFC 67 against Marvin Eastman, Jackson said, “I love Marvin, he’s like a brother to me. But right now, it’s time for black on black crime.”

One of my favorite Rampage quote was during his PRIDE days when he was asked, “If you look into a crystal ball, what do you see in your future?” His response was, ““I don’t have a crystal ball, I only have two balls.”

In 2003, Quinton Jackson vs. Ikuhisa Minowa, he had a conversation with Bas Rutten that went something like this:

Bas Rutten: “So you’re fighting Minowa.”
Rampage: “Manure?”
Bas Rutten: “No Minowa, what do u know about him?”
Rampage: “I found out his name was Manure, I was like, damn, this guy must be the shxt!”

On fighting Chuck Liddell in UFC 71, Rampage doesn’t get intimidated easily and was asked, “Chuck said in his pre-fight interview it’s gonna be a first round knockout.” Rampage said, “If he plans on getting knocked out in the first round that’s his business.”

The reporter went on to ask Rampage on whether he has any concerns going into the fight given that the run Chuck has been on lately? Rampage said, “Yeah I worry that the referee doesn’t do his job good and Chuck don’t make it outta there. I just hope he don’t die in that cage.”

Commentator Mauro Ranallo asked Rampage what his thoughts were during one of Wanderlei’s fight in PRIDE, “My thoughts are...I hope Wanderlei wins and wins fast, cuz I gotta go take a crap.”

Rampage and Wanderlei Silva were not exactly best friends back in PRIDE or in the UFC now. Jackson definitely let the Axe Murderer know what he thought of him.

"When I beat Wanderlei I’m a take his belt pull his pants down and spank him for being so ugly.”

Some of Rampage’s quotes were quite spontaneous. When Stephen “The Fight Professor” Quadros interviewed Jackson,

“Rampage, where do you see yourself in two years?” Rampage’s response was “Well, right now I’m 23, so in two years, I see myself 25.”

The list can go on and on but Quinton Jackson has established himself as a fighter who is able to back up what he says with his fierce knockouts and body slams over the years.

Rampage got some negative feedbacks for throwing in the quote of “black on black crime” at Rashard Evans during their stare down in UFC 96 but to the fans who follow Rampage’s career and the sport of MMA would know that Rampage is just being Rampage and he was just hyping up the upcoming title fight for the LHW title.

Whether it is Lyoto Machida who comes away with the title or Rashard Evans retaining his belt for their next fight, they will have to eventually go through Rampage Jackson to truly earn that status and respect.

If Jackson is asked what fighting style he will be adopting fighting for that belt, he will tell you, “My style is to whoop that ass!”
