1 of 12

The welterweight division has quickly become one of the most entertaining, competitive and intriguing divisions in the UFC.

There are always big fights coming up in the division, and fighters are always making moves up and down the ranks.

There wasn't any major movement in the past month, but just in case you forgot, let's take a look at where the top 10 fighters in the welterweight division stand for the month of October.

No. 10: Ben Askren

3 of 12

    Promotion: Bellator

    Record: 10-0

Most Recent Fight: Unanimous decision win over Douglas Lima at Bellator 64

Next Fight: Karl Amoussou at TBA

    Previous Ranking: 10

Coming in at No. 10 is the Bellator welterweight champion and former Olympian, Ben Askren.

Askren is undefeated in his MMA career at 10-0 and will look to extend his streak during season seven of Bellator when he faces Karl Amoussou.

No. 9: Diego Sanchez

4 of 12

    Promotion: UFC

    Record: 23-5

Most Recent Fight: Unanimous decision loss to Jake Ellenberger at UFC on Fuel TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger

    Next Fight: TBA

    Previous Ranking: 9

Diego Sanchez has gone back and forth between welterweight and lightweight, and while he has announced a return to the lightweight division, he remains ranked at welterweight for now.

His last fight was against Jake Ellenberger which he lost by unanimous decision, but it was a very entertaining and competitive fight.

No. 8: Jon Fitch

5 of 12

    Promotion: UFC

    Record: 23-4-1 [1 NC]

Most Recent Fight: KO loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC 141

Next Fight: Erick Silva at UFC 153

    Previous Ranking: 8

Jon Fitch was on the receiving end of a punch that sent him spiraling down the welterweight ranks. He was almost universally considered to be the No. 2 welterweight in the world, and now he's fallen all the way down to 8.

His next fight is another fight against someone not in the top 10, and it would appear to be a lose-lose situation for Fitch.

No. 7: Rory MacDonald

6 of 12

    Promotion: UFC

    Record: 13-1

Most Recent Fight: TKO victory over Che Mills at UFC 145

Next Fight: BJ Penn at UFC on Fox 5

    Previous Ranking: 7

Rory MacDonald remains in the No. 7 spot once again this month and has a chance to take on a future UFC Hall of Famer when he faces BJ Penn at UFC on Fox 5.

With a win over Penn, critics will have less ammunition to use against MacDonald, as he may be a legitimate title contender at that point.

No. 6: Josh Koscheck

7 of 12

    Promotion: UFC

    Record: 17-6

Most Recent Fight: Split decision loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC on Fox 3.

    Next Fight: TBA

    Previous Ranking: 6

Josh Koscheck has fallen from the top ranks of the welterweight division. For a long time, he was considered top three in the division, but a loss to Johny Hendricks sent him out of the top five.

He hasn't fought since that loss, although his next fight will likely be against someone in the top ten.

No. 5: Jake Ellenberger

8 of 12

    Promotion: UFC

    Record: 27-6

Most Recent Fight: KO loss to Martin Kampmann at The Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale

Next Fight: Jay Hieron at UFC on FX 5

    Previous Ranking: 5

Jake Ellenberger may have lost to Martin Kampmann, but he almost beat Kampmann and will certainly be back better than ever.

When he comes back, expect him to make another run and earn a title shot eventually.

No. 4: Martin Kampmann

9 of 12

    Promotion: UFC

    Record: 20-5

Most Recent Fight: KO win over Jake Ellenberger at The Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale

Next Fight: Johny Hendricks at UFC 154

    Previous Ranking: 4

Martin Kampmann should change his nickname from "The Hitman" to "The Comeback Kid," as he has come back from adversity in both of his past two fights.

He was nearly beaten by Thiago Alves, and then he submitted him, then he was nearly knocked out by Jake Ellenberger, and he came back and knocked out Ellenberger.

No. 3: Johny Hendricks

10 of 12

    Promotion: UFC

    Record: 13-1

Most Recent Fight: Split decision victory over Josh Koscheck at UFC on Fox 3

Next Fight: Martin Kampmann at UFC 154

    Previous Ranking: 3

Johny Hendricks has been one of the biggest movers in the welterweight division in the last year, as, before his fight with Jon Fitch at UFC 141, nobody really gave him much weight in the division.

Now, he stands one win away from a shot at the welterweight title.

No. 2: Carlos Condit

11 of 12

    Promotion: UFC

    Record: 28-5

Most Recent Fight: Unanimous decision victory over Nick Diaz at UFC 143

Next Fight: Georges St-Pierre at UFC 154

    Previous Ranking: 2

Carlos Condit will be fighting soon once again. After he won the interim welterweight title back in February, he elected to sit out and wait for the return of Georges St-Pierre.

The two will fight to unify the titles at UFC 154.

No. 1: Georges St-Pierre

12 of 12

    Promotion: UFC

    Record: 22-2

Most Recent Fight: Unanimous decision victory over Jake Shields at UFC 129

Next Fight: Carlos Condit at UFC 154

    Previous Ranking: 1

No surprise, Georges St-Pierre has the real welterweight title, and he remains the No. 1 welterweight in the world.

Carlos Condit will attempt to claim the undisputed title at UFC 154.
