US Open Tennis 2012: Day 6 Scores, Results and Recap

Roger Federer and Andy Murray advanced on Day 6 of the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York. The third round has come and gone and there weren’t many surprises as the men’s and women’s singles field took the first step of narrowing down before the Round of 16 on Monday.

Andy Murray Narrowly Escapes Upset

It took nearly four hours and included three tiebreaks but Murray held on to advance to face James Blake in the Round of 16.
Serena Williams Dominates Ekaterina Makarova

Williams lost to Makarova at the 2011 Australian Open but Williams got her revenge in this one. She’s been on a roll all year, playing some of her best tennis, including an impressive double-gold-medal performance at the 2012 Olympics.
Roger Federer Looked Like Roger Federer

This win, though, shouldn’t surprise anyone. Federer was tested by Verdasco but the Swiss tennis great has qualified for the Round of 16 in each of his last 34 Grand Slam appearances.
Federer will meet Mardy Fish in the next round as he continues on in hopes of earning his sixth U.S. Open championship.
