Arsenal always find themselves in the middle of the latest transfer rumors, and this summer has been no different.

As in previous years, many rumors have surrounded the potential signing of defensive reinforcements. Manager Arsene Wenger recently told the club's official website that he is still looking for one more midfielder and possibly a defender before the window closes.

With reports from various sources, including Metro, suggesting that the club's loan move for Real Madrid's Nuri Sahin is nearing completion, it appears a defender is all that is left on the shopping list.

With Andre Santos in hot water (via FoxSports.com) with authorities, a move for a defender may now be more important than ever.

Here are five reasons why Montpellier's Mapou Yanga-M'Biwa is the defender Arsenal need.

Leadership

A team can never have enough quality leaders, especially in the back line.

M'Biwa is Montpellier's captain, and handles his leadership responsibilities very well for a 23-year-old.

From his center-back position, M'Biwa has kept Montpellier's defense in shape over the last few seasons like an experienced veteran.

Technical Ability

Arsene Wenger stresses technical ability throughout his squad. To fit into the Arsenal system, a player must have a high level of on-the-ball skill.

M'Biwa has excellent technical ability. He is able to carry the ball out from defense and is an accurate passer when linking up play from the back.

Athleticism

M'Biwa brings a great deal of athleticism to the pitch. He is average in size (6'1", 175 pounds), but has excellent speed and strength.

His quickness and agility allow him to change direction well. This translates to him getting back into play quickly when the ball is lost.

His athleticism helps him match up with quicker forwards, but he also has the size and strength necessary to battle with stronger attackers.

Versatility

M'Biwa is a central defender for Montpellier, but can play any spot in defense. This is key in dealing with the inevitable injuries that happen over the course of a season.

His ability to fill in at left-back or right-back will be invaluable for Arsenal.

Defensive Ability

Above all, M'Biwa is a rising star when it comes to defenders.

His instincts, ability to read the game and athletic ability all form the core of an excellent defender.

He understands positioning, and is great in the tackle. His all-around package make him an attractive option for Arsenal if Wenger chooses to pursue him.
