Arsenal Transfer News: Alex Song Denies Transfer

Dan TalintyreAug 13, 2012

Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has affirmed his love for the North London club that he is currently under contract with—stating that he will not be moving on from the Emirates this summer.

The 24-year-old had been the subject of much speculation about a possible move to Barcelona, after the Spanish giants were believed to have made a £11.7 million bid (per The Daily Star).

But despite the attempts of Andres Iniesta and Gerard Pique to lure the midfielder to Camp Nou this summer (per Goal), Song has denied he will be leaving the Emirates over the summer transfer window.

"I am not going to lie if I said there is no interest [from Barcelona] but I am at Arsenal and I am happy at Arsenal.

"Barcelona are the best team in the world, and speculation will always continue until the [transfer] window closes..."

Song has two years left on his contract at Arsenal and after leading the club in assists last season, has shown he is a valuable part of the Gunners midfield. In fact, his 11 league assists were more than Xavi, Iniesta or Cesc Fabregas.

Likely to combine with Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere in defensive midfield for the Gunners this year, the 24-year-old still holds a crucial place at the Emirates and would be a huge loss for the club—should he make a move to Barcelona.

But with Song still wanting to remain at Arsenal, and the Gunners wanting him to stay for as long as possible, it seems that a move away from the London club won't be happening any time this summer.

Is Alex Song making a move to Barcelona this summer?
