Arsenal have had a great 2012 summer transfer window so far. It was definitely better than their 2011 summer in which they had to make last day signings.
This year, however, the Gunners were quick to get to work. They managed to sign forwards Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud early in the window. Then, it was finally announced on Arsenal.com that the Santi Cazorla signing had been completed. This transfer saga had been going on for a while, but it finally ended.
So with three great attacking additions to the team, is Arsenal done with their transfer window activities?
If Arsenal could manage to sign the Turkish midfielder, this summer could be considered a very successful summer.
I foresee that if completed, Nuri Sahin would be the Gunners' best summer signing, and here are seven reasons why that is the case.
Nuri Sahin actually had his one of his best career seasons before joining Real Madrid. It was during the 2010-2011 season with Borussia Dortmund where Sahin proved that he is one of the best young talents in world football.
During that season, Sahin had 40 total appearances in all competitions, in which he netted in eight goals and got credited for 13 assists.
As a result of his great performances, the midfielder was the Bundesliga player of the season in the 2010-2011 season.
A player like this would be bound to attract the attention of big clubs after having a phenomenal season. Real Madrid was that club. They signed the Turk in the summer of 2011 in a deal worth around £8-9 million.
At this point in time, Sahin is just 23 years old, meaning that he still has many years to come to showcase his talents and prove that he can become one of the world's best. Arsenal have the chance to sign the midfielder on loan, and this is not an opportunity that the Gunners should let pass.
Unfortunately for Jack Wilshere, one of Arsenal's brightest young stars, it looks like he still has a few more months before he comes back to playing football at a regular level. It was reported in Goal.com that the Englishman will be fully recovering sometime in October or even November.
This could only come as bad news for the Gunners. After a great 2010-2011 season, he sustained a severe ankle injury during a preseason match.
However, there just happens to be a solution. That solution is Nuri Sahin.
First of all, Nuri Sahin plays in a position that is similar to the one Jack Wilshere plays in. So that allows Sahin to act as a replacement for Wilshere.
Second, as mentioned earlier, Sahin is one of the bright, young players in football.
So, this would allow Wilshere to recover without being rushed too much, and it would add an extra attacking edge to the Gunners' team at the same time.
Sahin would be the perfect solution to the Wilshere injury situation.

One of the reasons Nuri Sahin is such an effective player is because of his good passing abilities. He can make good short passes and long passes.
This was proven as he managed to dish out 13 assists in his best season with Dortmund.
Long passes are the kind of passes that Sahin likes to make. With his long passing abilities, he can make some great assists, just the way Alex Song managed to do wonderfully last season.
Adding another talented passer to the team would just take the Gunners forward.
With good passing, Nuri Sahin would be able to mesh with Arsenal's style of play without much difficulty at all. Arsenal's play is based off possession, and to maintain good possession, good passing abilities are required.
In his performances, primarily with Borussia Dortmund, Sahin was one of the key passers of the team and managed to produce many good chances that would often resulted in goals.
This kind of presence is one that would benefit the Gunners greatly, so if he joins Arsenal, expect to see the Turkish midfielder record a great season in his first year in the Premier League.
One other skill that Nuri Sahin likes to use is his long shot ability. The midfielder has a great left foot that can be utilized so dangerously.
When it comes to long shots, the Turkish player can be very dangerous, and this kind of shooting ability is one that is needed at Arsenal as they only have a few good distance shooters. Robin van Persie, who might not even be with Arsenal, and Mikel Arteta are Arsenal's best distance shooters, so Sahin would be a great addition in terms of distance shooting.
When it comes to set pieces, it is a similar story. The Gunners have Robin van Persie, Mikel Arteta and Andrei Arshavin, who's future at the club is uncertain, who can take good set pieces.
Sahin is a player who can be just as deadly shooting from a set piece or whipping in a great ball into the box.
Add Sahin, and the Gunners get another dimension to their attack.
Coming to a club like Real Madrid must have been a dream come true for a young, bright player such as Nuri Sahin; however, the first season he had with the club was not a dream come true season.
In the Spanish League, the Turkish midfielder only featured in four matches. Total, he had 10 appearances accompanied by a goal and an assist.
After a season such as this, a player wouldn't feel too good or confident about himself.
As a result of this, it was reported in the Guardian that Jose Mourinho would be allowing Sahin to leave Real Madrid for the coming season. It was said that with other midfielders such as Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Lassana Diarra, Esteban Granero and Mesut Özil, it would be a difficult situation for Sahin with other talented midfielders.
If he joins Arsenal, the likelihood of starting each important match would be very high. As mentioned earlier in this slideshow, Jack Wilshere will miss the start of the season. Tomas Rosicky is also going to miss the start of the season, so this would provide Sahin with a great opportunity to play many matches.
This transfer would be beneficial for both parties in this situation.
The potential transfer for Nuri Sahin to Arsenal is just supposed to be a loan. However, it could turn out to become a permanent deal, whether it is this summer or next summer once the loan would have finished.
Nuri Sahin would add attacking creativity to the team and could act as a temporary replacement for Jack Wilshere, but if Sahin plays extremely well or Arsenal is struck with another injury crisis, there is a possibility that the Turkish midfielder could become a permanent Gunner.
In The Independent, it was reported that Jose Mourinho declared that Sahin is a surplus to the team's requirements, so this situation is likely to remain intact by the end of the 2012-2013 season. With this, there is certainly a possibility that Sahin could join the Gunners permanently if he plays well and is happier at the Emirates.
For now this would just be a loan deal, but the fact that Arsenal have an option of signing him permanently makes loan very useful.
Ultimately, the signings Arsenal has made with Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla are all very good ones. However, if Nuri Sahin would become a Gunner, he would be the best transfer of this summer transfer window.
He provides what Arsenal needs, and by joining, his playing desires would also be completed as well, so both Sahin and Arsenal would be happy with the deal.
So, do you think Nuri Sahin would be the Gunners' best addition of the summer?
