Arrelious Benn Sprains MCL on First Day of Tampa Bay Buccaneers Camp

If you read our training camp report yesterday, you might have noticed that we took note of Arrelious Benn going down with some sort of leg injury.

Turns out it was more serious that it appeared.

Mike Florio over at ProFootballTalk.com reports that Benn has a sprained MCL, that's a medial collateral ligament, if anyone cares, and will miss four weeks.

That's not good news for a team that was counting on Benn to step up his game this season.

Benn will now fall way behind the competition—and there is competition.

Tiquan Underwood looked great on Friday. He worked tirelessly in the heat, it didn't seem to bother the former New England Patriots wide receiver, who played for Greg Schiano at Rutgers.

Underwood put up one of the highlights of the first day of training camp when he beat the $7.5 million man, corner Eric Wright, and caught a 50-yard bomb from Josh Freeman.

With Benn sidelined, Preston Parker could have the inside track on that third receiver position, and don't count out Underwood—he looks like a real pro out there.

With Benn out, there will be more reps for the other receivers in camp: Sammie Stroughter, Ed Gant, Greg Ellingson, Landon Cox and Wallace Wright.

The Bucs made another roster move late Friday when they claimed corner Desmond Marrow, who was waived by the Houston Texans.

Buc Update: Brian price passed his physical with the Chicago Bears on Friday and the Bucs will receive a seventh round draft pick from the trade. Waived wide receiver Dez Briscoe was claimed by the Washington Redskins.
