WWE Rumors: Alex Riley Push Reportedly Halted After Confrontation with John Cena
Earlier today, PWInsider.com (via their subscription only newsletter) reported that "a while back, Riley was backstage with John Cena and Cena was ribbing him in front of some other wrestlers. Riley reportedly came back angrily at Cena, which was seen as him 'breaking the code of the locker-room.'"
Although it is a bit strange that this information is just being released now, it does make perfect sense.
There probably isn't anyone else on the WWE's roster (other than high-ranking officials) with as much power as John Cena. If Cena was indeed offended by Riley's reaction, it is definitively within the realm of possibility that Cena was the one responsible for Riley's burial.
Though not confirmed, if this was indeed the reason why Riley's push was halted, the consequences of this halt were very evident.
In 2011, during the height of his push, Alex Riley was paired with The Miz and soared above the mid-card into main-event territory. 2012, however, was a horrible year for the Virginia native who saw himself in the middle of a 14-match losing streak—including a loss to Heath Slater.
Unfortunately for Riley, although his streak did end on a May 2 episode of NXT during which he defeated JTG and Johnny Curtis in tag-team action with Tyson Kidd on his side, a new streak seems to have started as Riley has yet to win a match since then.
If indeed the rumors are true, was Cena justified to place Riley in the dog house? Sound off in the comments.
