Hensley and the Yankees had previously agreed to a deal in June at the $1.6 million mark, but Jim Callis of Baseball America reports that the Yankees found "an abnormality" in a close examination of his right shoulder and ended up reducing the slot bonus by $400,000.

Hensley, an Oklahoma native, had committed to pitch at the University of Mississippi prior to being drafted by the Yankees.

He obviously has great potential, indicated by his first-round selection, and John Manuel of Baseball America gives a good breakdown of his skills. According to Manuel, Hensley has a plus curveball that could potentially be even better than his 97 mph fastball.

His makeup and work ethic have been praised by many scouts.

Hensley won't be on the Major League roster for a while, but he has the potential to be a very important piece in the Yankees' rotation or bullpen.
