Offseason Social Media Scrapbook: Division-Wide Summer Vacation Savings

Jun 4, 2018

In this Fourth of July week edition of the NFC East Offseason Social Media Scrapbook, we're reminded that a) NFL players don't get regular paychecks in the offseason and b) some people are smart and/or frugal with their money regardless of how much they make.

We begin our look at what some of the division's top social media stars have been up to this week by reinforcing the reality that nobody likes to overpay for things.

Take Terrell Thomas, for example. The Giants cornerback signed a new contract earlier this offseason that pays, like, $11 million guaranteed over the next four years, but that doesn't mean the 27-year-old's gonna pay up to fly first-class.

I'd really like to get in on that secret, Terrell. Just comment below.

That caused me to wonder whether or not Thomas was being sarcastic with this tweet:

Cowboys running back Phillip Tanner might not be as well off as Thomas, but Tanner is still slated to make $465,000 this year and $555,000 next year. Still, the 23-year-old refuses to pay a premium to shop at Target.

I only hope that hashtag is a joke.

Giants left tackle Will Beatty might be the most frugal of the batch. Or the most lazy. I'm not entirely sure what he's trying to communicate here, but if indeed he put $3.50 worth of gas into his tank, that's both hilarious and outrageous. (Beatty will make a base salary of $565,000 this year.)

Not every NFC East player is having a thrifty offseason. The rock Eagles rookie wide receiver Marvin McNutt put on his girlfriend's finger this week tells us what the sixth-round pick did with his first NFL check.

So besides getting engaged and pinching pennies, what else are these guys up to this summer? Well, they're watching lots of movies. Perry Riley and Brandon Boykin don't see eye-to-eye in their 140-character-or-less reviews of "Ted"...

...And Dez Bryant is disappointed in Bruce Carter for failing to endorse "The Amazing Spider-Man"...

And they're spending time with animals. Eagles safety Colt Anderson was chilling with a deer one block from his house...

...And Jamar Chaney took his fiancé's dog to get a haircut...

Again, compelling and rich. At least none of them have been arrested, people.
