Kevin Sumlin and his powerful recruiting-based coaching staff continued to work their offseason magic with another huge defensive pick-up Tuesday afternoon.

Darian Claiborne, a 6'1" 220-pound inside linebacker out of Port Allen HS, became the Aggies' second commitment in three days and 23rd overall as reported by Taylor Hamm of 247Sports. The three-star prospect chose A&M over 14 other offers including Nebraska, Arkansas, TCU and Mississippi State, adding another solid piece to the already stellar 2013 class.

Following Houston (TX) DT Hardreck Walker deciding to take his talents to College Station on July 1, A&M's official entrance date to the SEC, Sumlin reached into Louisiana for the Aggies' second out-of-state commit of the class.

Ranked by 247Sports as the 21st best prospect at his position and 17th overall in the state, Claiborne brings his multi-faceted game to this A&M defense. Overall, his commitment is a giant step in the right direction for the Aggies, helping to cover at a position that will be suffering heavy losses following the 2012 season.

After losing LB Melvin Jones to LSU just last week, snaring Claiborne was almost a necessity for Sumlin and his defensive staff. The former Houston head coach found a way, just as he has since his hiring in December, to produce a giant commitment in a crucial moment.

Furthermore, the Aggies push further away from their traditional Texas recruiting grounds. Sumlin understands that in order for success in the future to be viable for his A&M program, picking up more top-notch prospects from around the country, not just the state, will be a requirement.

Establishing a strong foothold in Louisiana is certainly a solid start, especially with the LSU rivalry beginning to heat up once again.

With Texas A&M already having stolen LSU decommit WR Kyrion Parker as well as Louisiana native DB Noel Ellis, expect the Aggies and Tigers to continue to battle over the best of the Bayou state and those of east Texas from here on out.

Keep an eye out for more action on the Aggie recruiting front with Nike's The Opening beginning on Friday, July 5. Dallas Skyline wide receiver Ra'Shaad Samples is expected to commit to Texas A&M, garnering just another big-time playmaker for the incoming 'air raid offense.
