WWE News: Update on the Raw and SmackDown Money in the Bank Ladder Matches

Chris HumphreyJun 4, 2018

Following the birth of the Money in the Bank ladder match in 2005, the contest, once a WrestleMania exclusive, has grown to its own event every summer with both Raw and Smackdown getting their own match at the event.

At last yearโ€™s event, Alberto Del Rio and Daniel Bryan were successful in cashing in their brandโ€™s individual briefcases last fall, as the two won for the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships, respectively.

With Money in the Bank in three weeks, here are the details from WrestlingInc.com on the current plans for both Raw and Smackdown branded Money in the Bank ladder matches at the event next month on July 15.

In previous years, the Money in the Bank Ladder match was divided by brands, the Raw Money in theย Bankย Ladder match, and the Smackdown Money in the Bank Ladder match. WWE is now advertising the match as the "WWE Championship Money in the Bank Ladder Match" with Theย Big Showย being listed as the first participant.

There are no other indications on whether there will just be one Money in the Bank match, or if they plan to add a World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank match.

Even though the source mentions no plans for a ladder match for World Heavyweight Championship, it would make no sense for the company to only have a match for the WWE Championship at the event next month.

Along with the WWE having two ladder matches at the event, the changing of the name of the matches is a great idea that allows a superstar from either brand to capture the briefcase so thereโ€™s potential for a Smackdown superstar to win the WWE Championship ladder match.

With only three weeks until Money in the Bank as previously mentioned, which superstars do you think will walk out of Phoenix with one of the two briefcases that will be hanging high above the ring?
