Roger Federer: 6-Time Wimbledon Champion Set to Dominate His Bracket

Patrick ClarkeJun 23, 2012

Six-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer has a favorable bracket this summer at the All England Club, and he will be a lock for the semifinals when the tournament begins Monday, June 25.

Federer enters the season's third Grand Slam event as the No. 3 seed on the men's side, which means, barring an unthinkable upset, he will likely be pitted against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the semifinals two weeks from now.

At age 30 and closing in on 31, beating the world's best is a goal just slightly out of reach for Fed-Ex, who has a record 16 career Grand Slam titles to his name.

Winning his bracket, on the other hand, is still a reasonable expectation.ย

Federer's biggest challenges within his draw will be the No. 11-seeded American, John Isner, and No. 13 seed Gilles Simon. Isner presents all sorts of problems for his opponents on the tennis court considering he has remarkable size. At 6'9" there aren't a whole lot of balls that Isner can't get to.ย

Meanwhile, Simonโ€”who, like Isner, is also younger than Federerโ€”is an experienced grass-court player who has nine career singles wins at Wimbledon dating back to 2006.

Simon has made it to at least the third round in each of his last four tries at Wimbledon, while Isner has never made it past the second round at the prestigious Slam tournament.

That being said, Federer will likely overcome whatever difficulties the two tennis stars can throw at him over the next two weeks in London.ย

Federer hasn't been knocked out in the first week of Wimbledon since 2002 when he went out in the first round. The very next year, he began a streak of seven straight Wimbledon final appearances, winning six of them in all.ย

Fed will come through like he always does on the famed grass of Wimbledon this summer. He will conquer his bracket and make a classic run to the semifinals before being halted by the defending champion and world No. 1.ย
