Arsenal: Joel Campbell Scores for Costa Rica in World Cup Qualifying
If he keeps this production up, Joel Campbell may just find himself a spot on Arsenal's first-team roster next season.
The Costa Rican teenager (19 years of age) found the back of the net for his national side during a World Cup qualifier against El Salvador Friday night, bagging a goal in the 15th minute of what would eventually be a 2-2 draw.
It was the latest display of quality from Campbell, who scored a couple of bedazzling strikes for both club (he was on loan with FC Lorient this past season after failing to acquire a work permit following his transfer to Arsenal in August) and country.

Campbell scored three goals in 25 Ligue 1 appearances for Les Merlus, who narrowly avoided relegation in 2011-12. It's telling that two of those three strikes came on his favored left foot, which is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most sumptuous among the top young attacking talents in Europe.
Campbell played as a forward for Christian Gourcuff's side this past season, but he possesses the dribbling acumen and technical prowess to deputize on the wing as well—something that could come in handy in Arsene Wenger's 4-2-3-1 formation.
Several of Campbell's most scintillating attacking moves this past season (goals included) came when he was allowed room to cut in from the right flank, affording himself the chance to let fly with his left foot.
With goals coming at a premium, outside of Robin van Persie's 30 league strikes last season (the next two strikers in the pecking order, Marouane Chamakh and Park Chu-Young, tallied just one goal between them), the time may be ripe for Campbell to force himself into the pecking order at the Emirates.
At the very least, his production with Costa Rica is something to keep tabs on. The Central American side, deemed the third-most powerful in CONCACAF behind Mexico and the United States, head to Guyana for their next qualifier on June 12.
