Tiger Woods: Epic Win at the Memorial Tournament Will Bring Old Tiger Back

While many experts had written golfing legend Tiger Woods off at 36 years old, the former star proved that there is still plenty of fuel left in the tank.

That’s what a huge, two-stroke win in the Jack Nicklaus-designed Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club can do for a veteran who was thought to have lost his touch.

After the toughest stretch of Tiger's career, the last few years have made this win even sweeter. Add in that the Golden Bear was there to see Woods tie his 73-career win record, and we as fans may be seeing the rebirth of the old Tiger.

Woods told the USA Today about how well he was hitting the ball on Sunday and how he had something he hasn’t had in a long time—fun:

Boy, I hit it good today. I striped it today, from the word go. The only shot I tugged was the second shot on 10. Other than that, every shot was exactly the shape, the trajectory, the distance control (I wanted). I had it all today, shape off tees, whatever club I wanted to hit, I could hit. That was fun to have it when I needed it.

"

There was a time when Woods dominating a tournament was almost a certainty, but the off-course distractions of life have put the game towards the back of the legend’s head.

Not anymore.

With another huge step forward, Tiger is on his way to recapturing the form and domination he had just a few years ago. While he still hasn’t returned to the level he was at in his 20s, there is a chance he will never be that good again.

For Tiger, he doesn’t have to be that good again.

If Woods just wins tournaments at a normal clip over the next few seasons—on or two a year—he will have no problem passing Nicklaus and then Sam Snead's 82 career-victories.

Once he has the most wins in tour history, there will be no denying that Woods is arguably the greatest golfer that ever lived. With some much fuel left in the tank, let’s hope the old Tiger brings the excitement back to golf.
