Which of the Players Linked to Arsenal Can Actually Be Useful for the Gunners

Raul HingoraniJun 3, 2012

SInce the last game of the season, a plethora of players have been linked to Arsenal. A few of those players have already decided that Arsenal is not the team they will be playing for in the coming season, Eden Hazard and Jan Vertonghen as examples.

However, there are many other players who are still linked to Arsenal such as Yann M'Vila, Olivier Giroud, and Fernando Llorente. These players could be very useful to the Gunners in the coming years. If Arsenal managed to get some of these players, they could benefit immensely.

Arsenal will need to make some transfers to be able to win a trophy next season; many other clubs are also going to be looking to upgrade their squads with big transfers. Manchester City is looking to sign Robin van Persie, Manchester United is tracking Shinji Kagawa, Chelsea has already gotten Hazard and are also in pursuit of Hulk.

Arsenal will need to make some transfers.

So with that in mind, I will present to you some of the players linked with Arsenal and whether they would be useful or not to the Gunners.

Yann M'Vila

1 of 8

Age: 21

Nationality: French

Current Club: Rennes

Would he be useful at Arsenal: Yann is a young player with a lot of potential. He is a holding midfielder at his current club and plays this position with efficiency. He is a great passer and has superb vision, like Alex Song. He is also a robust, strong player who can make great tackles. As a result of his style of play, Yann has even been compared with Patrick Vieira, a midfielder who thrived at Arsenal. When he isn't defending, he is joining the attack and is using his vision to make great passes. He can be instrumental in attacks.

So in the end, Yann M'Vila is a player that could help Arsenal next season.

Seydou Doumbia

2 of 8

Age: 24

Nationality: Ivorian

Current Club: CSKA Moscow

Would he be useful at Arsenal: Seydou Doumbia is a fast, agile forward who could play on the wing or up front as a striker. He scored 33 goals in 41 appearances for Moscow last season. Those are some impressive goal scoring numbers. One thing to take into account though, is that Arsenal have 3 fast, agile wingers in Theo Walcott, Gervinho, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. With those three already, I'm not sure where Seydou Doumbia would play, except striker if van Persie Leaves. But striker isn't really Doumbia'a natural position.

So, I don't think Doumbia would be very useful to Arsenal in the coming years.

Olivier Giroud

3 of 8

Age: 25

Nationality: French

Current Club: Montpellier

Would he be useful at Arsenal: Olivier Giroud is a tall forward at 1.92 meters. He is a threat in the air and can finish with style. In the video above, Olivier Giroud demonstrates that he can get above players and head the ball, or he can score some emphatic goals. Giroud was one of the main reasons Montpellier did so well this season. He scored 25 goals in 43 appearances last season. He is on the rise; he showed this last season.

Ultimately, Giroud is another player who could really help Arsenal. He could not only score multiple goals, but he could give Robin van Persie a break if van Persie stays at Arsenal.

Younès Belhanda

4 of 8

Age: 22

Nationality: Moroccan

Current Club: Montpellier

Would he be useful at Arsenal: Younès Belhanda is a young player with a lot of flair. He is a great dribbler and he can get past defenders with ease. He is also great at setting up teammates for a goal, as demonstrated in the video. Belhanda also has a good shot. In the video, it shows him hitting the crossbar a couple of times, but that doesn't mean he has a bad shot. He can still score goals. If both Belhanda and Giroud were to come to Arsenal, the effectiveness of both players would upgrade. They both play for the same club, so they have some chemistry going.

Ultimately, I think Belhanda is the kind of player Arsenal needs right now.

Steven N'Zonzi

5 of 8

Age: 23

Nationality: French

Current Club: Blackburn Rovers

Would he be useful at Arsenal: Steven N'Zonzi is a defensive midfielder kind of like Yann M'Vila or Alex Song. This player isn't a big scorer, but he can make up for that by passing. With Arsenal getting close to signing Yann M'Vila, N'Zonzi wouldn't have a big role if he came to Arsenal. Arsenal already have players like Alex Song, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, who could play in defensive midfield, Arteta only if necessay.

If N'Zonzi were to join Arsenal, I don't think he would be very useful.

Fernando Llorente

6 of 8

Age: 27

Nationality: Spanish

Current Club: Athletico Bilbao

Would he be useful at Arsenal: Fernando Llorente is a talented player. He is a threat in the air, and he can also finish shots. He is similar to Olivier Giroud in the sense that they are both meant to play only one position, striker. Total, he had 29 goals in 53 appearances over the course of the past season. Those are some good scoring numbers. Both Olivier Giroud and Fernando Llorente could have the same effectiveness playing for Arsenal, but Giroud has more years.

With that in mind, Fernando Llorente would be a useful player for Arsenal.

Stéphane Sessègnon

7 of 8

Age: 28

Nationality: Beninese

Current Club: Sunderland

Would he be useful at Arsenal: Stéphane Sessègnon is a talented forward. He can play on the left, on the right, or even down the middle. He is a speedy player and has a good shot. In last season for Sunderland, the Beninese player scored 7 goals in 27 appearances and also had 9 assists. That's not bad for a forward. The only thing, however, is that Arsenal needs another man who can score goals when van Persie isn't on the pitch. In the past season, Arsenal were lucky that their flying Dutchman didn't get injured. Van Persie will need to rest given that he played a great majority of last season's games. He was effective in each game, but Arsenal need one more man who could help him out.

I'm just not too sure if Sessègnon is the player Arsenal needs.

Conclusion

Well, that's it.

Now we'll just have to wait and see who Wenger decides to sign during this summer.

He has already confirmed a deal with Cologne for German forward Lukas Podolski. Let's see who else he'll sign along with Podolski and how he integrates these signings into the starting lineup.

Thanks for reading.
