French Open 2012: Day 7 Scores, Results and Recap

Richard LangfordJun 1, 2018

The top seeds spent Saturday proving they were worthy of those seeds, as almost all of them cruised into the fourth round with little to no trouble.

This left little on-court drama for Day 7, but it is setting up for some great power matches as the fields narrow.

Check out some of the more notable matches from the day and view the full results below.

Wozniacki Has Another Grand Stumble

Caroline Wozniacki is having a rough year, and that didn't get any better at the French. Not that we should have expected it to. She has famously struggled at the Grand Slam events. She will exit this French after a third-round defeat to Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-1, 6-7 (3) 6-3.

Wozniacki became distracted by the officiating in this match and she could not recover. The Associated Press captured this post-match quote from the former No. 1:

"

It’s a disgrace that mistakes like this are made. It wasn’t even like, "Could have been in, could have been out." It was clearly out.

"

She also put her anger on vivid display during the match. The AP reported she tossed this at chair umpire Poncho Ayala:

"

How can you sit there and be so arrogant? Have you gone to school?

"

To her credit, Wozniacki wasn't placing all of the blame on the officiating. Matt Cronin, of TennisReporters.com, tweeted along this quote:

"

Wozniacki: 'I couldn't hit through her. In end maybe I should have stepped closer to lines. But tried everything that I could to win'

Nadal Continues to Dominate

Rafael Nadal looks as dominant as ever at Roland Garros, which is saying a lot, considering he is now 48-1 at this event.

On Saturday, he had little trouble with Argentina's Eduardo Schwank 6-1, 6-3, 6-4.

Nadal hasn't lost a set at this French and has now lost just 17 games. Nadal has had an easy draw, but it is clear he is on top of his game.

He is fully healthy and moving great. The ball is exploding off of his forehand, and he is drilling a decent amount of his first serves. And when he plays like this on the clay, he is unbeatable. His play even prompted ESPN to ask this question:

"

If you played a full match against Rafael Nadal on clay, could you score a single point?

— ESPN (@espn) June 2, 2012"

No, I could not.

Monaco Wins Grueling Match

The most entertaining match of the day belonged to Milos Raonic and Juan Monaco.

It was a grueling five-setter that saw Monaco pull off the rare feat of winning six games in five sets in the single match as he won 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4. The match lasted four hours and 33 minutes.

Monaco clearly won the battle of stamina in this one. Raonic's serve began to fade a bit and Monaco took total advantage.
