Arsenal Transfer Debate: Are Gunners Falling Behind in Transfer Market Again?

Hasmat MustunJun 6, 2018

When the season was coming to a close, Arsene Wenger said he was ready to booster the squad with some players but would like to do deals early, according to Danielle Joynson.

The imminent signing of Lukas Podolski was a good sign to Arsenal fans and to the team—a great addition to the squad.

But since then it's all been rumours and Arsenal hasn't really made a move for players in the market. I understand that we have a long transfer window ahead, but after the Euros all the players' current value will rise considerably.

In the meantime, Chelsea have already offloaded a proven striker for free and signed two of the hottest prospects in Europe, Marko Marin and Eden Hazard. They are also strong reports linking Chelsea with Hulk as a replacement to Didier Drogba.

Everyone know Hazard by now; that transfer saga dragged on for a while. But even though Arsenal were reported to tempt the Lille player to the Emirates, Hazard was quick to point out who he would play for  in England.

Manchester United look set to sign Shinja Kagawa, whom I rate highly. However, the deal has not been confirmed yet. Kagawa was pretty good against Arsenal earlier in the season, and I think he will be a great signing should the deal go through.

Therefore, one can assume that our rivals are making strong early moves. Arsenal not so much. The whole Van Persie fiasco is not going to end now. This saga will go on and on until a solution is proven.

Arsenal will need to strengthen whether RVP stays or leaves. I don't think Van Persie wants the pressure of scoring another 30 goals per year just to save our season. We need a ruthless addition that will make the team better straight away.

Podolski is a great catch. Olivier Giroud has been phenomenal for the France team and for his club. He has the ability to be a prolific Arsenal striker and could replace RVP if the Holland international decides to leave.

Another defensive midfielder must be signed, as well as an attacking midfielder and a defender. A goalkeeper for sure has to come in, otherwise the current Arsenal No. 1 could become a little bit arrogant. Wojciech Szczęsny is young and still improving, but without any competition he could lose his way and start making mistakes.

Yann M'vila would be ideal, but any other holding midfielder could be good too. They are great free agents at the moment too. Salomon Kalou is a no-brainer as cover in midfield. Jussi Jaaskelainen is a decent goalkeeper.

The Euros are almost upon us, and any talent that will shine in the competition will be costly afterward. Arsenal do not want a repeat of the whole Andrei Arshavin transfer. The club needs to be efficient with any signings now.

The most worrying thing for the fans is the wait to see if this will be a drag to the last minute like last season. That would not be an improvement, and the board—not Wenger—would have a lot of questions to answer if it were to happen.
