Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Gunners Should Add American Clint Dempsey
Arsenal should shake things up this summer by adding midfielder Clint Dempsey.
According to Mirror Football, Arsenal is targeting the American, and he wants to play in the UEFA Champions League.
I am grateful for everything Fulham have done for me, some of the best memories I have in soccer have been there, but the fact remains that I want to play in Champions League. I want to play at the highest level possible.
So what if it's different from what Arsene Wenger and Arsenal are accustomed of doing? Dempsey could provide a wealth of improvement to several areas for the Gunners.
Aside from Robin Van Persie, Arsenal were terrible in the goal-scoring department in the English Premier League. Van Persie scored 30 goals for the Gunners and Theo Walcott was second on the team with eight.
Obviously signing Van Persie should be priority No. 1, but Dempsey would provide the goal scoring ability Arsenal lacked. He tallied 17 goals for Fulham last season.
Dempsey's headed attempts from crosses and corners are exceptional. But he has also proved to be a solid finisher from an all-around aspect.
He's a good fit from the goal-scoring department.
Arsenal needs more grit in their starting 11. Dempsey provides grit and experience to a team that is getting younger every season.
Instead of adding a young guy that is unproven at a lower level, why not add Dempsey after seeing what he did for an average Fulham squad?
Prime of his career
Would you be against Arsenal adding Clint Dempsey?
Dempsey is playing the best football of his career. He is only 29-years-old; It's not like he's 34 and on the downside of his career. He wants to play in the best league to prove he's capable of competing against quality competition.
His passion and work ethic are evident, and I think he could play at a very high level.
Arsenal needs to add Dempsey for two, maybe three years if the price is right. He would give them goal scoring, grit, experience and a high character.
Whether it's Arsenal or some other Champions League contender, Dempsey will produce in his next landing spot. He won't accept anything less.
