Wenger and Arsenal are accustomed to bringing in youthful players especially from France. Giroud makes sense from a fit perspective especially if Van Persie leaves the club.
How do you replace 30 goals though?
It's nearly impossible to replace that many goals with one guy, but Arsenal has the right idea by acquiring multiple players capable of putting the ball in the back of the net.
Lukas Podolski, for example, was already attained by Wenger to possibly lure Van Persie into returning or to have another striker on the roster who is known for his goalscoring ability.
One player, however, won't get it done. Another needs to be signed and that should be Giroud. Arsenal's second-leading goalscorer this past season was Theo Walcott with eight.
It's difficult to win tournaments when you don't have multiple goalscorers on the roster.
Giroud provides solid aerial ability mixed with an improving all-around game. He has scored 33 goals for Montpellier in his tenure with the club.
Arsenal needs to sign Van Persie because he was the only consistent threat offensively. His departure would be a major gash to Arsenal's title hopes next season.
If that doesn't happen, Giroud must be involved with the backup plan.
