USC Football: Ty Isaac Commits to USC as Lane Kiffin Continues His Success

Michael FelderJun 6, 2018

It has been just 11 days since the Trojans landed a commitment from Eldrige Massington, but Lane Kiffin has done it again. He's already pulled one of the nation's top quarterbacks in Max Browne, one of the country's top defensive ends in Kenny Bigelow and now he has added one of the most coveted running back prospects in the 2013 class. Ty Isaac, the standout running back from Illinois has pledged his allegiance to the Trojans today in a move that sees all of the Midwest schools come away disappointed.

Unlike Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, Georgia and the other schools that are pacing the nation with their massive classes, USC only has six commitments heading into the summer season. That's not by accident, that's not a mistake; Lane Kiffin has to be smart because he is not playing with the full 25 scholarships that the rest of college football has to pass out. Sanctions have the Trojans hamstrung and that means prudence is the name of the game for the Trojans head coach.

Prudent is exactly what he has been. The class is made up of exclusively top-level players: two 5-star athletes and four high ranking 4-star players. The Trojans cannot afford to make mistakes and while higher-rated players do not always turn into All-Americans, the probability that they will provide positive contributions is high.

With Isaac in the fold, USC is expecting to beef up their running game in the coming years. For all of the success that Kiffin has had with Matt Barkley and the passing game, the run game is not where he would like it to be. Isaac enters the fold behind some solid offensive line signees in the 2012 cycle who will be the foundation for success as the Trojans move forward. Cody Kessler and Max Wittek will be battling to be the future leader of the Trojans and Kiffin is quietly and carefully assembling the pieces to prove that, even with sanctions, he can keep this program performing at a high level.

A lot of schools are left disappointed by the Isaac decision and we'll have to see if this sticks with February still months away on the recruiting calendar. From Isaac's words it certainly seems like the rising high school senior is looking forward to becoming a part of the University of Southern California football program:

"

"I just got out on campus and loved everything about it," Isaac said Tuesday morning after announcing his commitment to USC via Twitter. "The players, the coaches, the people around the program, everything they took me through.

"I knew it was the right fit."

"

That's big talk from one of the nation's top ranked running backs and it is most certainly a testament to Lane Kiffin getting things done at USC.
