Manny Pacquiao: Pac-Man's Redemption Guaranteed vs. Timothy Bradley

Adam WellsMay 31, 2018

For the first time in his professional career, Manny Pacquiao enters a fight with doubt and controversy surrounding him and how much he has left in the tank. All of that talk will be squashed when he takes Timothy Bradley to task on June 9.

When the Bradley fight takes place, Pacquiao will be seven months removed from that controversial, some would say unwarranted, decision victory over Juan Manuel Marquez. That fight seemed to expose a lot of holes in the 33-year-old Pacquiao's game and gave future opponents an opening they can exploit.

Marquez was able to pepper Pacquiao thanks to his speed and counter-punching, while exposing Pacquiao's defense in that fight. With the blueprint out there, anti-Pac-Man fans will be looking for any excuse possible to say why he will lose.

Unfortunately for them, Bradley does not have the style to keep up with Pacquiao over the course of a 12-round fight. He has admitted as much, saying that he is going to take risks in order to make sure he hurts Pacquiao.

"

In order to be a champion you've got to take chances in the ring. You've got to take chances. I'm here to win. I'm not just here to lay down for a paycheck. I'm here to win. I've got to hurt him. Someway, somehow, I've got to hurt him.

"

When fighters start talking about taking a risk and changing some of the things that have made them successful, it is not a good sign. Bradley should fight his style and hope that Pacquiao has to adjust to him, not vice versa.

Instead, Pacquiao is going to be able to do all the things that we have grown accustomed to seeing from him: crisp, accurate punches, speed and relentless attacking style.

Given that Pacquiao is fighting to redeem himself after a disappointing effort in his previous bout, he will leave no doubt about who the winner is this time around.

Bradley can take comfort in getting his moment in the spotlight against one of the two biggest fighters in the world, but he is not in the same class as Pacquiao. That will be proven on June 9 in Las Vegas.
