The Man with the Plan: Larry Scott on Branding, Playoffs and What's Next

Adam KramerMay 9, 2012

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott has been a busy man over the past three years. He’s increased the size of the conference (hence the whole “12” thing), signed a 12-year television contract worth around $3 billion and been at the forefront of the playoff conversations that are suddenly on the college football agenda.

Increasing the brand awareness of the Pac-12 has become his task, and he’s aligned himself with the likes of Google and others, which will make this a much easier task. Then there’s the playoff discussion, which Scott has helped to create among those unwilling to look beyond bowl games and the BCS.

Scott pulled up a chair with ESPN 810’s Jay Binkley (the lead man of the wonderful show Three Guys in a Garage) and myself to talk a bit about the evolution of the Pac-12, keeping tradition and progression in check in regard to college football’s postseason and how some of the new coaching faces will fare.
