Dave's College Basketball Picks, Jan. 31: Michigan at Purdue

dave darbySenior Analyst IJanuary 30, 2009

Michigan (14-7, 4-5) at #16 Purdue (16-4, 5-2)

Line: Purdue -11.5

Michigan is nearing rock bottom. Losers of four out of their last five, the 10-2 start to the season is all but forgotten. Manny Harris has been less than effective (10 turnovers against Ohio State) and Sims has been good only in 20 minute stretches. With six of their last 9 games on the road, even an NIT berth is looking a little shaky.

Purdue won a thriller at the Kohl Center, defeating the Badgers 64-63. The Badgers were hot from beyond the arch, but Purdue shot 59.5 percent overall to get a very nice road win. Winners of 5 in a row, the conference title is still well within reach. Purdue commands an amazing differential scoring 71.7 points per game (2nd in big 10) and allowing just 57.9 (2nd in Big 10).

Michigan is 8-7-1 ATS including 1-5-1 on the road

Purdue is 9-8 ATS including 6-6 at home

Purdue is 7-3 ATS against Michigan in their last 10 match ups

The slide continues here for the Wolverines. Purdue is a better team, playing better and has more to play for. Michigan has lost its last three road games by an average of 18 points, so I don’t see the spread here as too much to ask for.

Dave’s Pick: Purdue -11.5
