Yann M'Vila: Arsenal Fans Should Forget About Signing the Midfielder

Mike MoraitisJun 2, 2018

It looked like a certainty that Yann M'Vila was coming to play for the Arsenal Gunners after David Oiley of the London Evening Standard reported a contract agreement has been reached, but fans must now put any hope of landing the midfielder out of their heads completely.

"

Arsenal have agreed a £17.7million fee with Rennes for midfielder Yann M’Vila but are yet to confirm personal terms with the club’s Champions League participation in the balance.

"

According to Oiley, now it seems the reported deal was just a decoy by M'Vila's agent in order to squeeze more money out of another top competitor for the midfielder, Inter Milan.

In fact, Arsenal doesn't even have any concrete plans to sign M'Vila at all.

"

However, Standard Sport understands that the player’s agent had instigated rumours a deal was close in order to force an offer from Inter Milan and that Arsenal have no plans to sign the Frenchman at present.

"

This is a stunning blow to fans across the globe as Arsenal will not be adding a huge piece to their club this season after all. It would have been a beautiful complement to what the Gunners already have in place.

M'Vila's contract would have been the biggest in Arsenal's history and Oiley also points out that his off-the-field issues could be a little risky for that type of money.

"

M’Vila’s fee would represent a club record and there are thought to be reservations about the player’s temperament after he was arrested for allegedly punching a 17-year-old in an incident that took place at his home.

"

When looking at the situation as a whole, this club is well-off without the young midfielder and the addition of Yann M'Vila will not make or break Arsenal moving forward.

I think in this instance, it's better safe than sorry if Arsenal truly had a shot to sign M'Vila in the first place.
