Mayweather vs. Cotto: Money May Proves He's the Best of Our Time
Floyd "Money" Mayweather is the best boxer of our time, and there is no way you can dispute that.
People often hate on Mayweather because of his out-of-the-ring antics. They hate on him because of his rants, because of the way he promotes himself and because of the way he acts.
People dislike Mayweather because of his personality, and that's completely okay.
You'll never hear me say that it's okay to go on racist rants. I won't advocate the way Mayweather handled his post-fight interview with Larry Merchant, either, in which he told the announcer that HBO should fire him because he doesn't know [expletive] about boxing.
Sadly, those are just a few instances we could talk about in regards to Mayweather's personality. The fact is, none of that matters.
Luckily for Mayweather, I am not here to judge what type of person he is. I'm here to tell you what kind of fighter that I think he is, and to judge him off his performances in the ring alone.
Simply put, I see no way you can't consider him to be the best boxer of our time.
His record speaks for itself—43 men have tried to take him down, and all 43 of them have failed.
He's collected wins over names like Shane Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya and obviously just recently over Miguel Cotto.
You can try to say that Manny Pacquiao is really the best, but until Pacquiao decides to prove that in the ring against Mayweather, there is no way for him to prove it.
As far as it stands right now, Mayweather has never been beaten. Pacquiao, on the other hand, has been beaten—three times—and has been in three draws.
His record doesn't even come close to standing up to Mayweather's undefeated streak. If he wanted to prove that, he'd have to fight him.
That doesn't appear to be happening, though, and Mayweather's win over Cotto is yet another notch in his belt.
You may not like him as a person, but you certainly have to respect him as a boxer.
He's the best of our time, and until somebody can prove him wrong, it's going to stay that way.
