SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 116, Kendial Lawrence, Missouri RB
The SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players in the SEC every day, concluding on August 30 at the start of the college football regular season.
116. Kendial Lawrence, No. 4, Missouri, Running Back
2011 Stats: 119 carries for 566 yards and five touchdowns, 14 catches for 77 yards
Strengths
Lawrence has proven to be a very versatile player for the Tigers throughout his career. The rising senior beat out Henry Josey for the top spot at running back before the 2011 season, but a leg injury forced him to the sideline early and he was never able to regain his starting role.
At 5'9", 195 pounds, Lawrence is compact and quick, and is able to make an impact as a running back and a receiver out of the backfield.
Weaknesses
There's still some concern if Lawrence can be a feature running back. Josey took the job and ran with it following Lawrence's injury last season and when he was injured, Lawrence jumped back into the starting spot to close out the season.
He's got the talent to be a feature running back, but he hasn't been one for a prolonged period of time yet.
2012 Prediction
It's looking more and more like Missouri star running back Henry Josey will miss this season with a knee injury, which means that it's Lawrence's show in 2012. Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel and offensive coordinator David Yost know how to get the ball into the hands of playmakers, so expect big things for Lawrence in 2012.
